WORKSHOP POSITION - workshop exp in Heat Exchanger & Pressure Vessel fabrication

Role Overview

ABIS is recruiting for multiple workshop positions in heat exchanger and pressure vessel fabrication, located at the workshop facility. Positions range from entry-level operators to senior engineers, with experience requirements between 3 and 15+ years depending on the role.

Role Purpose

These roles support the design, fabrication, assembly, quality assurance, and maintenance of pressure vessels, storage tanks, heat exchangers, and associated piping systems for Oil & Gas and petrochemical projects. Work is performed in compliance with Saudi Aramco requirements and applicable ASME, API, AWS, and TEMA standards.

Key Responsibilities

Fabrication & Assembly

• Read and interpret fabrication drawings, isometrics, and GA layouts for pressure vessels, tanks, and heat exchangers.
• Perform accurate layout, marking, cutting, beveling, and fit-up of components as per design and ASME/API standards.
• Operate fabrication tools safely and follow HSE guidelines.
• Report discrepancies and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
• Perform complete heat exchanger retubing, including bundle removal and installation.
• Operate tube pulling machines, expanders, and related tools.
• Carry out tube cutting, pulling, and expansion using manual or automated methods.
• Ensure accurate tube alignment and spacing per specifications.

Welding Operations

• Perform welding on pressure vessels, tanks, and heat exchangers using SMAW, FCAW, GTAW (TIG), and Orbital processes.
• Hold valid 6G qualification with proficiency in all positions.
• Weld Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel, and Alloy Steel as per WPS.
• Ensure proper fit-up, alignment, and temperature control.
• Coordinate with fabricators and QC for inspections.
• Maintain equipment, consumables, and ensure safety and cleanliness at the work area.
• Operate Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) and Strip Cladding machines to apply corrosion-resistant overlays on pressure vessels, tanks, heat exchangers, and related equipment.
• Set up, calibrate, and operate machines according to approved WPS and project requirements.
• Perform cladding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy materials to achieve specified thickness and quality.
• Monitor welding parameters, travel speed, and deposition rates to ensure uniform results.
• Set up and operate orbital welding machines for tube-to-tubesheet and pipe welds.
• Program parameters per WPS.
• Align components accurately.
• Monitor and adjust welding for quality compliance.
• Perform visual and NDT checks.
• Maintain equipment through cleaning, inspection, and routine servicing.

Welding Supervision & Leadership

• Lead and supervise welding operations for pressure vessels, tanks, heat exchangers, and related equipment.
• Manage SMAW, FCAW, GTAW (TIG), and Orbital welding for CS, SS, and Alloy Steel.
• Allocate welders and resources per WPS, PQRs, and material requirements.
• Monitor fit-up, preheat, interpass temperature, PWHT, and consumables.
• Maintain weld traceability, logbooks, and repair records.
• Coordinate with QA/QC for inspections and NDT.
• Ensure all welding activities comply with ASME, API, AWS standards, and HSE safety protocols.

Fabrication Supervision & Leadership

• Lead the team.
• Check and perform accurate layout, marking, cutting, beveling, and fit-up of components as per design and ASME/API standards.
• Coordinate with welders, QC inspectors, and engineers to ensure proper alignment, dimensional accuracy, and compliance with ITPs and WPS.
• Conduct fit-up inspections.

Machining Operations

• Operate heavy-duty lathe and radial drilling machines to machine large components such as tubesheets, baffle bundles, and flanges for pressure vessels, tanks, and heat exchangers.
• Select appropriate tools and fixtures for CS, SS, and AS materials.
• Interpret engineering drawings to achieve precise tolerances.
• Set up, calibrate, and monitor machines for accuracy and surface finish.
• Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting to ensure smooth operation.
• Operate and program VMC, CNC lathes, and plate cutting machines for precision fabrication, including tubesheet drilling and machining.
• Interpret engineering drawings, nesting plans, and G/M codes.
• Set up machines with appropriate tooling for CS, SS, and alloy materials.
• Monitor quality, adjust programs as needed, and maintain equipment for safe and efficient operation.
• Operate and program CNC plate cutting machines for precision fabrication.
• Set up machines with appropriate tooling for CS, SS, and alloy materials.

• Operate and program CNC plate rolling machines for precision fabrication of CS, SS, and alloy materials.

Surface Preparation & Cutting

• Perform oxyfuel gas cutting of plates and pipes.
• Demonstrate knowledge of gases and ability to operate all types of gas cutting machines.
• Possess knowledge of cutting parameters.
• Perform grinding, finishing, and surface preparation of components used in heat exchanger and pressure vessel manufacturing.
• Ensure smooth edges, proper weld profiles, and dimensional accuracy as per fabrication drawings.
• Remove burrs, slag, and welding defects.
• Assist in fit-up preparation.
• Operate grinding tools safely.
• Operate AG4, AG7, AG9 and related grinding equipment.

Lifting & Rigging

• Demonstrate knowledge of lifting methods and tire-mounted cranes.
• Possess knowledge of operating EOT cranes.
• Inspect rigging equipment before use.
• Ensure proper load balance and signaling during lifts.
• Coordinate with crane operators and fabrication teams.
• Strictly follow HSE requirements.

Engineering & Design

• Perform design and engineering of pressure vessels, storage tanks, and heat exchangers per ASME, API, and TEMA standards.
• Ensure compliance with Saudi Aramco requirements and client-specific certifications.
• Perform mechanical calculations using PV Elite, COMPRESS, or similar tools.
• Manage and review outsourced design deliverables.
• Support bid evaluations, scope reviews, and client clarifications.
• Coordinate with QA/QC for inspection and material compliance.
• Prepare nozzle loadings, supports, weld designs, and assembly drawings.
• Provide fabrication support and resolve shop floor queries.
• Integrate all design documents into complete project engineering deliverables.

Quality Assurance & Inspection

• Lead QA/QC inspections for pressure vessels, tanks, and heat exchangers in Oil & Gas or petrochemical projects.
• Ensure compliance with ASME, API, and Aramco standards.
• Review and approve WPS, PQRs, and welder qualifications.
• Monitor NDT activities and personnel.
• Manage outsourced fabrication/inspection and coordinate with vendors and third-party inspectors.
• Prepare ITPs, inspection reports, and final quality dossiers.
• Interface with clients for hold/witness points, DCL submissions, and testing.
• Handle NCRs, corrective actions, and technical clarifications.
• Drive quality improvements.

Production Planning & Coordination

• Manage fabrication, welding, and assembly of pressure vessels, tanks, and heat exchangers.
• Interpret engineering drawings and supervise workshop operations.
• Ensure quality and HSE compliance.
• Handle ERP-based project planning, consumption tracking, vendor management, and scheduling.
• Develop production schedules and optimize manpower and resources.
• Ensure adherence to quality and safety standards.
• Coordinate with engineering, QA/QC, and inspection teams.
• Monitor progress against milestones.
• Resolve technical and production issues.
• Support Aramco inspections and audits.
• Drive continuous improvement while ensuring safe and timely project execution.

Equipment Maintenance

• Perform maintenance and troubleshooting of workshop electrical systems, including welding machines, CNC lathes, compressors, and motors.
• Inspect and repair control panels, DBs, wiring, and lighting.
• Conduct preventive maintenance.
• Read schematics for accurate diagnostics.
• Follow safety protocols.
• Coordinate with production and engineering teams.
• Maintain maintenance records.
• Manage spare parts inventory.
• Perform maintenance, inspection, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems on
