Working in Kuwait — the questions people actually ask
Written for this country only. The same answers repeated across six country pages is what makes Google treat them as one page.
Do I need a job offer before moving to Kuwait?
Yes in nearly every case. Your employer applies for the work permit and your residence permit is issued against it. GCC nationals are the exception and do not need one.
Can I apply for Kuwait jobs from outside the country?
Yes. Employers here hire internationally as a matter of routine, particularly in oil and gas, contracting and healthcare. Expect a video interview and a question about how quickly you could relocate.
What is the standard notice period in Kuwait?
Three months is the figure commonly written into an indefinite contract for monthly-paid staff, though shorter periods appear at junior level. Your signed contract governs, not custom.
Is salary in Kuwait taxed?
There is no personal income tax on wages. Social insurance deductions apply to Kuwaiti nationals rather than expatriate staff, so the gross and net figures are usually close for expatriates.
Does Kuwaitisation affect private-sector hiring?
Employers work to national-employment targets that vary by sector, which mainly shapes competition for administrative and customer-facing roles. Technical, engineering and specialist positions remain widely open.
Where are most of the Kuwait roles on Uplift right now?
Kuwait City carries the most, with Hawalli, Farwaniya and the industrial areas around Shuwaikh, Shuaiba and Ahmadi behind it. The counts at the foot of this page are read live.
Looking across the Gulf?
Most candidates here search three or four markets at once. Each card carries its own live count, so nobody clicks into an empty page.
