Applicant systems read a PDF from top to bottom. A single column gives them one order to follow, so nothing is read out of sequence. It is a statement about the layout — we cannot promise what any particular employer’s software will do with it.

Read with care

Four, for two different reasons

The Hybrid Split and The Sidebar Compact put two columns on the page. They look considerably better to a person, and some older systems read a two-column page column by column, which can interleave your dates. The Portrait and The Portrait Square carry a photograph, which is normal on a Gulf CV and a reason to reject the file in most of Europe and North America. Your content is identical in all four — only what the software makes of the page changes.

Not a translation of an English layout: the page is set right to left, with Arabic type and Gulf conventions for dates and contact details. You can keep an English and an Arabic CV side by side and switch between them.
