Role Overview
Software Developer/Trainer at RTX Collins Aerospace, based onsite in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, supporting a communications systems modelling and simulation laboratory and academics program.

Role Purpose
Support the Connected Battlespace Lab (CBL) through software development expertise, training delivery, and knowledge transfer to Emirati personnel over a four-year assignment in Abu Dhabi, following an initial three-month training period in the UK.
Key Responsibilities
Training & Instruction
- Conduct training for the Connected Battlespace Lab (CBL) Foundations Course
- Teach software development related topics as part of the CBL Foundations Course
- Teach select courses in software development
- Provide students' academic support and mentoring to ensure successful completion of the course
- Assess students' understanding of software development topics and evaluate their proficiency
Knowledge Transfer & Mentoring
- Conduct a Training Needs Analysis (TNA) and design and develop the knowledge transfer and mentoring program for the UAE CBL
- Facilitate knowledge transfer to CBL Emirate personnel through co-development of software and mentoring during on-the-job-training (OJT)
- Perform in-lab software development alongside Emirati CBL Foundations Course graduates
- Conduct OJT and mentoring of junior software developers to improve their proficiency
- Work with reach-back support engineers and SMEs to gain and maintain expertise in CBL Foundations Course topics and co-development technical areas
Software Development & Engineering
- Provide software development subject matter expertise (SME) supporting the CBL laboratories
- Modify and create software applications supporting modelling and simulation (M&S) activities
- Write and use scripts, artificial intelligence (AI) agents, and other code to support M&S objectives
- Learn, write, and use Ansys, MATHLAB, and other M&S programming languages
- Stand-up and maintain a Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Development (CD) pipeline
- Review and advise on software development policies and procedures
Infrastructure & Installation
- Support the installation of the Connected Battlespace Lab (CBL) at a UAE site
Course Development & Improvement
- Support the Instructional Systems Design process to develop and improve the course
Additional Duties
- Document M&S Software Engineer (MSSE) apprentices' qualifications
- Perform software upgrades and maintenance
- Other related duties as required
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor's Degree in software development
- 15 or more years of software development using an agile development methodology
- Certification in C++, Java, JavaScript, Python, Bash, or equivalent languages
- Qualified trainer in Collins Aerospace or to a recognised standard externally
- Native English speaker or advanced proficiency in English
- Valid passport or ability to obtain one
- Ability to attain immigration and work permit authorisation for Abu Dhabi, UAE for four years
- Eligibility to access UAE Ministry of Defence (MOD) locations
Preferred
- Modelling and Simulation experience
- Mission Thread development experience
- Experience in the Middle East or working with native Arab cultures
- Military experience or military-related programs
- Experience with communications systems such as datalinks, networks, and radios
- Experience with networking, cloud applications, and web libraries
- Experience with model development and integrating commercial off the shelf (COTS) software with purpose-built software to perform and evaluate simulations
- Understanding of RTX Collins Aerospace policies and procedures
Additional Information
- Position Type: Onsite
- Assignment Structure: Three-month initiation and training period in the UK followed by a four-year assignment in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
- Eligibility: Not available to US candidates due to ITAR compliance requirements
- Immigration Support: The company will support the candidate through the relevant application process
- Pre-hire Requirements: Candidate must successfully complete all required background and pre-hire immigration checks
- Work Commute: For onsite roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee's personal responsibility
