Role Purpose

To develop and deliver outstanding primary education aligned with the English National Curriculum, implement effective strategies to raise standards and close learning gaps, and demonstrate leadership at multiple levels while working collaboratively within a supportive school community.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum & Teaching

• Develop and implement policies and practices for the department that reflect the school's vision, aims, and commitment to high standards of achievement and effective teaching and learning.
• Ensure that appropriate and relevant schemes of work are developed, in place, and regularly reviewed and evaluated for all year groups and courses.
• Ensure schemes of work include suitable provision for SEN/POD, G&T, and EAL students.
• Ensure curriculum coverage, continuity, and progression in the department for all students, including those of high ability and those with special educational needs.
• Evaluate the quality of teaching and learning in the department and use this to identify effective practice and areas for improvement.
• Take action to further improve the quality of teaching and learning.

Data & Progress

• Use data effectively to identify students who are underachieving in the department.
• Create and implement plans of action to support underachieving students.
• Analyse and interpret relevant school data to inform policies and department/school SEF writing.

Planning & Development

• Establish, monitor, and evaluate short, medium, and long-term plans for the development of the department.

Standards & Expectations

• Set expectations for staff in relation to standards of achievement, quality of teaching and learning, and behaviour.

Enrichment & Extended Learning

• Ensure the department regularly contributes towards the school's CAS Programme and after-school Booster/Revision Sessions for I/GCSE and IB DP courses.
• Demonstrate commitment to an extensive enrichment programme.

Team & Performance Management

• Performance manage team in accordance with school performance management policy.
• Ensure efficient and effective deployment of staff and resources.

Resources & Environment

• Maintain efficient and effective control of the Department's Resource and CapEx budgets.
• Effectively use accommodation to create an effective and stimulating environment for teaching and learning in accordance with Learning Environment Policy.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in the related subject with PGCE or other teacher qualification.
• Minimum of 3 years' teaching experience.
• Experience of the UK curriculum.

Skills & Competencies

• Secure knowledge of teaching the English National Curriculum.
• Proven track record of implementing effective strategies to raise standards and plug gaps in learning.
• Leadership skills and experience at a variety of levels.
• Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a team.

• Genuine understanding and appreciation of the values of the region.
