Role Overview

Steward at NMDC Group. The Steward ensures the smooth operation of the vessel's kitchen and dining areas on a Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger, providing excellent service to the crew while maintaining a high standard of hospitality and cleanliness on board.

Role Purpose

The Steward manages the overall operation of the galley, including food preparation, service, and sanitation. This role requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced maritime environment while maintaining the highest standards of food safety and vessel cleanliness.

Key Responsibilities

Food Preparation & Service

• Assist the Cook in daily routine operations and preparation of every meal.
• Assist in cleaning, peeling, and cutting of all food items according to the company's standard and assuring efficient food service.

Sanitation & Hygiene

• Perform duties in accordance with accepted standards for safe food handling and sanitation within work areas.
• Ensure all food service equipment is properly cleaned after each use, including the preparation area and drink dispensers.
• Wipe down mess, deck, and galley overheads and bulkheads with a cleaning and disinfecting solution.
• Maintain sanitation, health, and safety standards in work areas.
• Ensure proper cleaning and sanitary matters of the working area as instructed by the Chief Officer or Captain.

Health, Safety & Compliance

• Maintain awareness of all fire, safety, and emergency procedures.
• Ensure familiarity with Company HSE and Quality Policy.
• Work in compliance with HSE regulations.
• Use any equipment, protective devices, or clothing required by the employer.
• Report to the employer or supervisor any known missing or defective equipment or protective device that may be dangerous.
• Report any known workplace hazard or violation of the Act to the employer or supervisor.
• Do not remove or make ineffective any protective device required by the employer or by the regulations.

Pest & Contamination Monitoring

• Alert for signs of contamination or infestation by pests, including insects and rodents, in the galley and storerooms.
• Report such findings to the Master.

Operational Flexibility

• Maintain a generalist view of assigned jobs; at times you will be asked to perform duties above and beyond the scope of this role due to operational requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum 03 years of relevant experience in similar industries.
• Technical School Certificate or an equivalent professional qualification, or equivalent professional experience.
• Certificate or Membership: STCW Basic Training, Fire Fighting & Safety Training, and other sea survival certification.
