Sonographer - Vascular (STMC)

Role Overview

Sonographer - Vascular at SEHA, responsible for performing vascular sonography procedures independently or under the supervision of a senior sonographer, analyzing output, and reporting findings to the supervisor as needed.

Role Purpose

To perform high-quality vascular ultrasound imagery procedures, evaluate diagnostic images, ensure equipment safety and maintenance, and support clinical and departmental operations within established protocols and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Sonography

• Perform all ultrasound imagery procedures in accordance with department policies, procedures and protocols.
• Apply detailed knowledge of anatomy and physiology to produce images of high diagnostic quality.
• Perform other related radiography procedures as required.
• Recognize anatomy and pathology in cross-sectional imaging to optimize scan protocols.
• Liaise with radiologists to arrange further imaging or tests.

Image Evaluation & Reporting

• Evaluate and assess ultrasound images produced for acceptable quality, appropriateness and completeness.
• Advise other staff on image quality when required.
• Forward images to the radiologist for review and reporting.
• Deal with initial enquiries from patients and clinical staff and relay information to clinical staff where necessary.

Equipment & Safety Management

• Take responsibility for the safe and competent use of all radiology equipment, patient appliances and aids used in the department.
• Report any incidents, equipment faults or deterioration to senior staff in a timely manner.
• Maintain a clean and tidy working environment, including restocking of supplies and equipment cleaning.
• Comply with all safety and quality control programs and procedures as applicable.
• Comply with applicable precautions for environmental safety and infection control, using interventions that minimize or prevent cross infection in conjunction with relevant departments.

Quality & Compliance

• Promote and maintain quality in all services and ensure continuous quality improvement measures are in place.
• Conduct method evaluation and development as per standard policies and procedures.
• Maintain the strictest confidence in relation to patient information whether formally or informally recorded.
• Practice within the expressed limits of established policies and procedures.
• Ensure that Standard Operation Procedures and Quality Assurance tests are maintained within all sections.
• Document all interventions in appropriate format.
• Comply with and support clinical audit processes within the service and report as agreed.
• Communicate in a professional and courteous manner with patients, family and other medical personnel to obtain information for laboratory records, explain procedures, clarify orders and communicate status.

Materials & Inventory Management

• Maintain sufficient inventory of material supplies and equipment for performance of duties.
• Report shortages of materials to the supervisor at the earliest convenience.
• Maintain records for ordering and replenishments.

Clinical Support & Education

• Provide advice to medical and technical staff on appropriate techniques and imagery interventions.
• Participate in education sessions for department staff, doctors and nurses in the safe and secure handling of equipment, including teaching, induction, peer review, case studies and clinical presentations.
• Participate in department programs and committees, various hospital committees and staff meetings if requested.
• Participate in the orientation and training of new employees and radiography interns.
• Ensure appropriate internal and external sharing of information based on governing policies and procedures.
• Maintain professional knowledge by attending lectures, seminars or online education units.
• Complete and maintain all regulatory requirements including licensure, certification and other mandatory training within established time frames.

General

• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

• Option A: Not less than 2 years post-graduate experience in ultrasound in an acute care hospital, including Doppler, obstetrics and gynecology and abdominal sonography, of which not less than 2 years' experience as a senior ultrasound radiographer in an acute care hospital.
• Option B: Not less than 4 years post-graduate experience in ultrasound in an acute care hospital, including Doppler, obstetrics and gynecology and abdominal sonography.
• UAE National: Not less than 2 years post-graduate experience in general radiography.

Desired

• Post-graduate ultrasound diploma certificate.
