Role Purpose

The Tubular Services Technician II prepares the rig floor, places and operates conventional casing tools and equipment, validates job and equipment requirements, and supports casing make-up to required torque. Working with limited supervision on routine assignments, the role helps crews execute casing, completion string, drill pipe, and related tubular service activities safely and efficiently while contributing to reliable field execution, equipment readiness, customer service, and compliance with company safety, quality, and operating requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Field Operations & Conventional Casing Services

• Prepare and maintain the rig floor and independently complete routine tubular services tasks within assigned procedures and crew direction.
• Properly place and operate conventional casing tools and equipment to support casing, completion string, drill pipe, and related tubular service activities.
• Work with the Pusher, Stabber, Floorhand, Driller, and other crew members to validate job requirements, verify equipment readiness, and make up casing to required torque.
• Coordinate routine rig-up, field execution, and rig-down activities, recognizing changing job conditions and escalating nonroutine issues promptly.

Equipment Inspection, Troubleshooting & Readiness

• Perform pre-use and post-use function checks on tongs, hydraulic power units, casing handling tools, and related equipment.
• Identify and document defects, abnormal conditions, or readiness concerns on the tong, hydraulic power unit, and supporting equipment.
• Troubleshoot routine mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical equipment issues; complete permitted adjustments or maintenance and refer complex conditions to appropriate personnel.
• Maintain, organize, and store tools and equipment so assigned assets are clean, serviceable, documented, and ready for field use.

Job Validation, Documentation & Customer Support

• Confirm casing sizes, weights, specifications, required torque values, and operating requirements with appropriate crew or customer representatives.
• Record job information, equipment checks, defects, test results, and service documentation accurately and completely.
• Communicate operating status, test results, equipment concerns, and job requirements clearly to field leadership, shop personnel, and internal or external customers.
• Use practical field knowledge to answer routine questions, support service delivery, and escalate technical or customer issues outside assigned authority.

Safety, Crew Support & Capability Development

• Perform all work in accordance with rig safety rules, company procedures, quality requirements, and applicable policies and standards.
• Maintain clean and organized rig-floor and equipment areas, recognize field hazards, and take or request appropriate corrective action.
• Provide task-level guidance and on-the-job support to less experienced team members on routine procedure concepts, equipment handling, function checks, and safe work practices.
• Demonstrate dependable, service-oriented teamwork while adapting to changing field conditions and operational priorities.

Additional Duties

• Operate a company vehicle when assigned, qualified, and authorized.
• Support shop, yard, inventory, loading, unloading, and equipment preparation activities as needed.
• Assist with routine maintenance, testing, cleanup, and documentation activities when directed.
• Participate in safety meetings, job briefings, skills training, and continuous improvement activities.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Crew Pusher, Driller, Field Supervisor, or Operations Supervisor.

Qualifications & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two to four years of related experience, including experience in casing installation, tubular services, rig-floor, or comparable oilfield operations.
• Working knowledge of common casing sizes, weights, specifications, and torque requirements.
• Experience placing, operating, inspecting, and maintaining conventional casing tools and related equipment.
• Ability to identify, document, and troubleshoot routine tong, hydraulic power unit, mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical equipment concerns.
• Ability to complete routine work with limited supervision and escalate nonroutine conditions appropriately.
• Valid, current, and unsuspended driver's license issued by the employee's state of residence.

Additional Information

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience operating conventional casing tongs, hydraulic power units, casing handling tools, or related tubular running equipment.
• Experience validating casing specifications and documenting job, test, torque, or equipment information.
• Basic training or demonstrated working knowledge in mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical systems.
• Experience providing on-the-job guidance or task training to less experienced employees.
• Experience working directly with customer representatives or service company personnel in field operations.
• Experience operating a company vehicle and traveling to field locations.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

• Works primarily in field and rig environments, including outdoor locations and non-climate-controlled work areas.
• Works in a moderately noisy environment with routine exposure to the elements.
• Must stand and walk for long periods.
• Must be able to walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel, communicate, and hear throughout assigned operations.
• Must be able to lift, pull, and push loads of up to 50 pounds unassisted.
• Must be able to go up and down stairs, perform repetitive motions, and use close, color, and peripheral vision with the ability to adjust focus.
