Role Overview
Senior Software Engineering Manager (Mobile App) at Dyson, Dubai. As the most senior member of the App team in Dubai, you will provide technical and strategic leadership across the app scrum teams located there.
Company Overview
Dyson owns and develops the MyDyson app, which is at the forefront of Dyson's customer experience. The platform has more than 3 million active users worldwide and an IoT platform with over 8 million connected machines. There are currently 11 scrum teams around the world working on the MyDyson app, each with software engineers specialised in iOS development, Android development or mobile testing/automation, plus a scrum master and product owner. Teams have autonomy to manage their own work and share a commitment to creating high-quality code.
Role Purpose
To provide technical and strategic leadership across the app scrum teams in Dubai, fostering a supportive and productive environment while ensuring consistency in approach, robust support for team delivery, and alignment with broader App objectives across the global organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development
- Manage the app scrum teams in Dubai and foster a supportive and productive environment that leads to success.
- Oversee the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) of key staff within these teams.
- Develop talent and drive technical decision-making to ensure engineering best practices across the mobile domain.
Strategic Direction
- Set a clear vision for the teams and craft a strategic growth plan for the overall team to ensure comprehensive development and success across the organization.
- Identify new technologies, tools and working practices to help continually improve standards.
Collaboration & Alignment
- Work with the Software Engineering Managers in each of the App scrum teams to ensure there is consistency in approach and robust support for all teams to enable them to deliver commitments they have made.
- Partner your Senior Engineering Manager peers to ensure effective collaboration within the teams and make decisions that prioritize the team's best interests.
- Work with the SVP and Head of App to agree and deliver the broader App objectives and goals across the global app organisation.
- Manage and collaborate with distributed teams across multiple time zones, maintaining alignment, communication, and delivery quality.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimally 10 years of experience in Software/App development.
- 4 years of people management experience.
- Strong mobile engineering background as either an iOS or Android specialist, with the ability to guide and mentor developers across both platforms.
- Proven track record leading teams that build and ship large-scale mobile applications, serving millions of users.
- Demonstrated experience working with Agile methodologies, driving delivery and continuous improvement across multidisciplinary teams.
- Familiarity with mobile apps of robot vacuum cleaners is a good to have.
Skills & Competencies
- Deep proficiency in Swift, MVVM, RxSwift, SwiftUI, and Combine (if iOS-focused).
- Strong expertise in Kotlin, with hands-on experience in Volley, RxJava, and Dagger (if Android-focused).
- Strong leadership capabilities, including talent development, technical decision-making, and ensuring engineering best practices across the mobile domain.
- Vendor management, collaboration and a desire to improve.
