Role Overview

Senior Nuclear PET / CT Technologist at American Hospital Dubai. The role performs licensed independent practitioner duties in diagnostic and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine and Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography procedures.

Role Purpose

To deliver high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic NM and PET/CT imaging services while overseeing daily scanner operations, ensuring patient safety and comfort, maintaining regulatory compliance, and continuously improving professional performance and departmental quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Procedure Execution

• Perform licensed independent practitioner duties in diagnostic and therapeutic NM and PET/CT procedures.
• Perform all requested NM and PET/CT examinations as ordered by the attending physician.
• Use cognitive NM SPECT/CT and PET/CT skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic information and images.
• Use independent judgment during NM SPECT/CT and PET/CT exams to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
• Select appropriate imaging acquisition with consideration given to established protocols and other factors influencing data acquisition parameters.
• Prepare patients for procedures.
• Verify informed consent for applicable procedures.

Medication and Patient Access

• Prepare, administer, and document activities related to medications per state and federal regulations or lawful institutional policy.
• Perform venepuncture as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
• Perform intravenous access as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
• Identify, prepare, and/or administer radiopharmaceuticals and medications as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.

Equipment Operations and Maintenance

• Oversee daily operations of the NM SPECT/CT and PET/CT scanners.
• Operate PET/CT and SPECT/CT scanners.
• Report equipment failures to the appropriate supervisor or staff member.
• Monitor and maintain quality control standards.

Image Analysis and Reporting

• Analyse and synthesize NM SPECT/CT and PET/CT information and medical history.
• Communicate findings to the appropriate physician.
• Evaluate images for technical quality and ensure proper identification is recorded.
• Post process digital data for display or hard copy records, ensuring proper identification is evident.
• Maintain archival storage of digital data as appropriate.

Patient Care and Safety

• Assume responsibility for the safety and mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the NM and PET/CT environment.
• Assume responsibility for patient needs during procedures.
• Coordinate with other staff to ensure appropriate patient care is provided.
• Address problems of patient care as they arise and make decisions to appropriately resolve the problems.
• Respond promptly and positively to patients, families, co-workers, and all others in a respectful, courteous, and confidential manner.
• Identify and respond to emergencies.

Scheduling and Operations

• Prepare patient schedules.
• Coordinate work schedules with the Technical Director and/or scheduling desk to ensure workload coverage.
• Organize daily work schedule and perform related clerical duties as required.

Quality and Compliance

• Participate in quality improvement processes and continually assess professional performance.
• Oversee Quality Assessment (QA) processes.
• Apply principles of As-Low-As-Reasonably-Achievable (ALARA) to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
• Maintain a high standard of medical ethics and demonstrate self-motivation to increase understanding and knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve.
• Establish and maintain ethical working relationships and good rapport with all interrelating hospitals and referrals.

Education and Training

• Provide in-service education to the team on requirements of NM and PET/CT procedures as requested by other members of the health care team.
• Educate and monitor students and other health care providers.
• Participate in customer service training and continuing education.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Nuclear Medicine Imaging.
• Active home country registration.
• Dubai Health Authority (DHA) License.
• Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience as an NM and PET/CT Technologist.
• Knowledge of specifications, standards, and tolerances for the operation of NM and SPECT/PET/CT equipment and facilities.
• Knowledge of NM and SPECT/PET/CT imaging procedures, principles, techniques, equipment, and technology.
• Knowledge of human anatomy, human physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and medical terminology.
• Knowledge of radiation, magnetic protection, and safety.
• Knowledge of Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) or accreditation standards.
• Skills in Radiopharmaceutical preparations.
• Ability to develop, adapt, and/or modify NM and PET/CT protocols, procedures, and operating standards.
• Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy in positioning and NM and PET/CT techniques.
• Ability to speak and write in English fluently.
