Role Purpose

To provide technical expertise in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of Flight Simulator Training Devices and associated systems, ensuring training device availability, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence while mentoring junior technical staff and contributing to the growth of a new aviation training operation.

Key Responsibilities

Device Support & Maintenance

• Attend maintenance calls, device setup, conversions, demonstrations, and Simulator Flight Tests.
• Assist with snag clearance activities and support for training devices.
• Independently perform Preventive Maintenance Tasks, Daily Readiness checks, Recurrent QTG runs, Aircraft Database updates, and IOS Lesson Plan updates on training devices and associated systems.
• Ensure all tasks are carried out according to established standards and that deficiencies are followed up, actioned, and closed in a timely manner.

Troubleshooting & Problem Resolution

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve training device issues, including AOGs and NAA-raised issues.
• Perform hardware refurbishment and modifications.
• Identify recurring issues and pursue permanent solutions.
• Monitor SimHub and Simissues for updates.
• Use the Computerized Maintenance Management System to record, track, review, update, and monitor deficiencies and maintenance activities.
• Produce reports for TCOPS Management to monitor performance and identify trends.

Leadership & Operations

• May be assigned to the role of Shift Lead, Team Lead, Device Caretaker, or Task Caretaker.
• Manage all aspects of the assigned role autonomously.
• Create, improve, and update procedures and guidelines for new, routine, and non-routine tasks.
• Prioritize, plan, and coordinate most maintenance tasks.
• Regularly review and update all issues for planning purposes.
• Generate reports for review during technical meetings.
• Ensure that training devices are ready for NAA recurrent evaluations.
• Ensure that all maintenance records are up to date.

Performance & Quality Assurance

• Ensure that all training devices achieve CAE, Departmental, and Service Level Agreement KPIs.
• Ensure that all projects and DRs are worked on, addressed, and brought to closure in a timely manner.
• Clear authority and customer business-critical issues within specified targets.
• Participate in weekly technical meetings, NAA evaluations, internal and external audits, and SLA review meetings with CAE upper management and the customer.
• Act as Deputy Manager or Group Leader Technical Operations in their absence.
• Work with CAE Customer Service to follow up on business-critical issues.

Technical Collaboration & Expertise

• Work with the FSTD Technical Specialists on issues that require testing and troubleshooting.
• Take on special projects based on the needs of the Training Center Operation.
• Pursue knowledge and skills to become a technical expert in one or more FSTD systems (Visual, Motion, Flight Controls, QTGs, etc.).

Training & Development

• Mentor and provide On-the-Job Training to more junior colleagues.
• Provide support for work on more complex tasks and during corrective maintenance tasks.
• Assist in yearly performance evaluations of the team and individuals.
• Assist the Manager or Group Leader Technical Operations in generating employee development plans.
• Mentor and share knowledge with fellow engineers and technicians to develop their skillsets.
• Develop technical workshops and provide on-the-job training to FSTD Support Staff.

Health & Safety

• Comply with local and global CAE Environmental Health & Safety standards, instructions, and safe working procedures.
• Exercise duty of care for own H&S and that of others who may be affected by your work.

Qualifications & Experience

• Technical College Diploma or Degree in Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, or Aeronautical/Aerospace Field.
• At least 7 years of related work experience.
• Good understanding of aircraft and FSTD terminology.
• Able to interpret schematics and other technical documents pertaining to FSTDs.
• Able to perform Preventive Maintenance Tasks and Daily Readiness on FSTDs.
• Strong knowledge of local and International (EASA, FAA) regulations pertaining to Flight Simulation Training Devices.

Skills & Competencies

• Excellent knowledge of the English Language, both spoken and written.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills of Electronic, Electrical, Hydraulic, and Pneumatic systems.
• Knowledge of Analog and Digital principles and theory.
• Good understanding and comprehension of Aircraft Systems, Avionics, Motion, and Visual Systems.
• Skilled in the use of test equipment and software diagnostic tools.
• Good computer skills with knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel).
• Basic knowledge of computer mainframe and architecture, networking, operating systems (Windows NT/XP, UNIX, Linux, AIX), and software languages (C, C++, FORTRAN).
• Able to mentor and provide On-the-Job Training to more junior colleagues.
• Highly engaged and motivated individual.
• Highly customer oriented and able to deal tactfully in sensitive situations.
