Senior Design Manager (MEP) at AtkinsRéalis. This role leads and manages the MEP design function across complex building, infrastructure, and industrial projects, ensuring technical excellence, compliance, and successful project delivery.

Role Purpose
The Design Manager oversees multidisciplinary MEP design teams, coordinates with stakeholders, and ensures all MEP systems are designed to meet project requirements, budgets, schedules, and applicable standards. The role drives innovation, quality assurance, and efficient design solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Design Leadership & Development
- Lead the development and delivery of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) design packages from concept through detailed design stages.
- Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentoring to engineers, designers, and project teams.
- Drive sustainability, energy efficiency, and innovation initiatives within MEP systems design.
Team & Stakeholder Management
- Manage and coordinate multidisciplinary MEP engineering teams, consultants, and external stakeholders.
- Coordinate closely with architectural, structural, civil, and other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery.
- Manage client relationships and serve as the primary technical point of contact for MEP design matters.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure all MEP designs comply with local regulations, international standards, client specifications, and sustainability requirements.
- Review and approve engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, reports, and technical submissions.
- Monitor design quality and ensure adherence to quality management procedures and best engineering practices.
Planning & Optimization
- Establish design schedules, resource plans, and project priorities to achieve project milestones.
- Conduct design reviews, value engineering workshops, and risk assessments to optimize project performance.
- Experience in project planning, resource management, budgeting, and schedule control.
Procurement & Technical Support
- Support tendering, procurement, and contractor evaluation activities through technical reviews and clarifications.
- Resolve technical issues during design, construction, commissioning, and handover phases.
Reporting & Communication
- Prepare project progress reports and communicate design status, risks, and recommendations to senior management.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 10-15 years of experience in MEP design and engineering, with significant experience in design management roles.
- Proven experience delivering large-scale hospitality or leisure projects (hotels, resorts, entertainment venues).
- Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams and coordinating with consultants and contractors.
- Professional Engineer, Chartered Engineer, PMP, or equivalent certification is an advantage.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of MEP design principles, building systems, and relevant international and local codes and standards.
- Proficiency in MEP design software and BIM platforms such as Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, and related engineering tools.
- Strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, electrical distribution, lighting, ELV, and building services systems.
- Familiarity with sustainable design practices, energy-efficient systems, and green building certifications.
- Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, communication, and presentation skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
