Role Overview

Senior Cost Controller at Wood PLC, based in Qatar. This is a long-term assignment supporting project delivery across FEED, Pre-FEED, Brownfield, and Greenfield scopes of work.

Role Purpose

Execute project cost control and financial management in accordance with the project execution plan, including Wood and Project Procedures on Safety and Quality Control, while maintaining alignment with man-hour, cost, and schedule targets.

Key Responsibilities

Budget Development and Maintenance

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of Project Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS) for specific scopes.
  • Assist in the development of project budgets in accordance with the Basis of Estimate, including statements of work scope, assumptions, man-hour estimates, and narratives.
  • Review and comment on client documents related to project budgeting.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of project cost budgets using appropriate software applications.
  • Support the project work approval process in terms of accurate cost code allocation and initial budget set-up and approvals.

Cost Tracking and Monitoring

  • Liaise with procurement, finance and time-capture functions, and third parties as required, to support accurate and timely capture of procurement, materials, subcontract and labour manhour costs.
  • Allocate costs in accordance with approved project WBS.
  • Monitor cost commitments and expenditures through all phases of the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor overall project cost performance and contingency drawdown.
  • Assist in the monitoring and reporting on cost impact of project manpower forecasts.

Stakeholder Liaison and Awareness

  • Liaise with engineering, procurement and construction functions, and others as required, to maintain awareness of project activities and their impact on the project budget, schedule and cost forecast.

Reporting and Forecasting

  • Provide input to project cost performance reports in accordance with project reporting requirements.
  • Support the preparation of updates to project cost forecasts.
  • May facilitate and communicate cost and schedule impact of change notifications.

Change Management

  • Assist in development of project change orders and variations in accordance with engineering and construction change notifications.

Project Controls and Governance

  • Attend project meetings as required.
  • Participate in the project cost close-out process.
  • Attend cost and estimate risk analysis sessions as required.
  • Participate in Project Controls Compliance and Continuous Improvement Reviews.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant technical or business discipline, or equivalent gained through relevant vocational training and/or industry experience.
  • Minimum 15 years' experience.
  • Experience in Onshore Oil and Gas or Offshore Oil and Gas sectors preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Good computer skills.
  • Understanding of project management principles and techniques.
  • Self-motivated and proactive with high achievement drive and initiative.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational awareness.
  • Ability to confidently deliver assigned scopes of work independently or remotely from technical leadership personnel, with minimal guidance and direction.
