Role Overview

Senior Civil Engineer - Bridges at Egis Group. This role manages structural engineering activities associated with bridge facilities, including inspections, maintenance, repairs, technical assessments and coordination of corrective and planned maintenance work.

Role Purpose

The Structural Engineer manages, inspects, evaluates and coordinates all structural engineering activities associated with facilities. The role encompasses structural inspections, corrective maintenance, repair works, technical assessments, method statement reviews, contractor coordination, quality control and preparation of engineering documentation required for submission to the Client, Consultant and relevant authorities.

Key Responsibilities

Inspections & Assessment

• Carry out detailed structural inspections of steel bridge elements, box girders, pontoons, machinery pits, concrete structures, access platforms, ladders, supports and associated bridge components.
• Identify structural defects, deterioration, corrosion, cracking, deformation, water leakage, coating failures, concrete spalling and other maintenance-related issues.
• Prepare inspection reports, technical assessments, condition reports and repair recommendations.
• Support emergency inspections and urgent structural assessments whenever required.

Technical Review & Documentation

• Review structural drawings, shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, inspection and test plans, risk assessments and technical calculations.
• Develop and review repair methodologies for structural steel, reinforced concrete, bridge components and marine structures.
• Review welding procedures, WPS, PQR, welder qualifications and NDT requirements.
• Review material test certificates and ensure compliance with approved specifications and applicable standards.
• Maintain proper engineering records, inspection reports, photographs, test reports, approvals and work-order closure documentation.

Work Execution & Supervision

• Coordinate corrective maintenance and planned maintenance work orders from initiation through execution, inspection, approval and closure.
• Monitor the progress of structural work orders and ensure that activities are completed within the approved programme.
• Supervise structural repair works, including steel plate replacement, welding repairs, strengthening, crack repair, concrete repair, grouting, protective coating and anti-carbonation coating.
• Verify structural steel fabrication, erection, dimensional accuracy, bolt tightening, welding quality and surface preparation.
• Ensure all works comply with approved drawings, specifications, quality requirements, safety procedures and project standards.

Quality & Testing Coordination

• Coordinate non-destructive testing, including ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle testing, dye penetrant testing and thickness measurements.

Technical Planning & Estimation

• Prepare technical proposals, repair sketches, scope of work, bills of quantities and cost estimates for corrective maintenance activities.

Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Coordination

• Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and PLC/SCADA engineers where structural works interface with bridge operating systems.
• Liaise with the Client, Consultant, specialist subcontractors, suppliers and internal project teams.
• Attend site meetings, technical coordination meetings, inspections and progress-review meetings.

Reporting & Governance

• Prepare technical presentations and progress reports for submission to the Client.
• Assist the Project Manager in programme monitoring, resource planning, risk identification and recovery planning.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a recognized university.
• Minimum 8 years of overall structural engineering experience.
• Minimum 4 years of practical experience in bridge, marine, infrastructure or heavy structural-steel projects.
• Minimum 5 years of UAE experience is preferred.
• Professional engineering certification or chartered status is preferred.
• Previous experience with RTA projects, bridge maintenance or movable bridge systems will be an advantage.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong practical and site-execution knowledge.
• Ability to independently assess structural defects and recommend suitable repair solutions.
• Strong technical-report writing and documentation skills.
• Good communication and coordination skills.
• Ability to manage multiple work orders and priorities.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and standard Microsoft Office applications.
• Familiarity with structural-analysis software will be an advantage.
• Knowledge of Maximo or similar computerized maintenance-management systems will be beneficial.
• Strong commitment to quality, safety and timely completion of works.
