Role Overview

Senior Civil Design Engineer – Wet Utilities & Drainage at HDR, a global professional services firm.

Role Purpose

Lead the design, development, and delivery of wet utilities and drainage infrastructure projects. Provide technical expertise and mentorship to support project success and team capability development across civil engineering disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Technical Delivery

• Lead the design of wet utilities and drainage systems for complex infrastructure projects.
• Develop detailed technical drawings, specifications, and calculations for drainage and water management solutions.
• Conduct hydraulic modeling and analysis to optimize system performance.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, codes, and regulatory requirements.

Project Management

• Manage project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation for assigned wet utilities work streams.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including architects, structural engineers, and environmental specialists.
• Liaise with clients and regulatory bodies throughout the design process.
• Track project progress and report status to senior leadership.

Team Leadership & Development

• Mentor junior engineers and design staff on best practices in wet utilities and drainage design.
• Review and quality-assure technical work produced by team members.
• Contribute to capability building within the civil engineering department.

Technical Innovation & Continuous Improvement

• Evaluate emerging technologies and methodologies in drainage and wet utilities design.
• Implement process improvements to enhance design efficiency and quality.
• Contribute to knowledge sharing and technical documentation within the firm.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 8 years of professional experience in civil engineering, with substantial focus on wet utilities and drainage design.
• Demonstrated experience leading design projects from concept through completion.
• Professional engineer (PE) licensure or the ability to obtain licensure.
• Experience working on infrastructure projects of significant complexity and scale.

Skills & Competencies

• Advanced proficiency in CAD software and hydraulic modeling tools.
• Strong command of drainage design principles, water management systems, and hydraulic analysis.
• Excellent project management and stakeholder communication skills.
• Ability to lead cross-functional teams and mentor junior staff.
