Role Overview

Senior Backend Engineer - PayLink at Salla. Design and build payment-critical backend services end to end on a modern Java stack, with a high bar for correctness, reliability and security.

Role Purpose

You will design and build payment-critical backend services and APIs, ensuring correctness and reliability under load while mentoring mid-level engineers on a modern Java and Spring Boot foundation.

Key Responsibilities

Service Design & Development

• Design and build payment-critical backend services and APIs on Java and Spring Boot.
• Build robust integrations and event-driven flows.
• Ensure correctness and reliability under load.

Engineering Standards & Quality

• Write thorough tests and help maintain high engineering standards.
• Mentor mid-level engineers.

Qualifications & Experience

• 5+ years in Java backend with Spring Boot.
• Hands-on payments or fintech experience on real payment or financial-transaction systems.
• Hands-on experience with at least one payment processor or gateway such as MPGS, Cybersource or mada.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong microservices and REST API design.
• Relational databases.
• Solid grasp of transactional integrity and reliability.
• Containers and CI/CD.
• Strong automated testing.
• AI-augmented engineering: actively use AI coding tools such as Claude Code in day-to-day development.

Additional Information

• Nice to have: Experience with more than one payment processor or gateway.
• Nice to have: Cloud platforms such as OCI, AWS or Azure; Kafka.
