Role Overview

Respiratory Therapist in Respiratory Therapy at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC).

Role Purpose

The role is responsible for independently or under the supervision of senior therapists all respiratory therapy interventions, taking into consideration the patient's best interest.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Delivery

• Perform respiratory care procedures as per established policy and procedures, if required under the direction of senior staff and physicians.
• Assume responsibility for operating autonomously, utilizing critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Participate in the development and modification of respiratory care management, plans and therapeutic goals for patients with cardiopulmonary diseases in consultation with physicians.
• Assist the physician and Code Team in cardiac and respiratory arrest situations.
• Provide advanced emergency airway care according to the approved protocol.
• Perform and assist with pulmonary and sleep diagnostic procedures as required.

Equipment & Resources

• Oversee and highlight the shortage of materials to senior staff or supervisor at the earliest convenience, ordering replenishments when necessary.
• Provide troubleshooting of Respiratory Care equipment and highlight any maintenance requirements or breakdowns to senior staff.

Education & Development

• Assist in the education, development, orientation of new employees, and preceptorship of students as assigned.
• Participate in education sessions for department staff and other healthcare providers in secure handling of equipment, including teaching, induction, peer review, case studies, and clinical presentations.

Patient Care Accountability

• Assist and take responsibility for the Respiratory Therapy support of patients and monitor patient response regularly.
• Ensure patient receives the highest standard of care.
• Practice within the expressed limits of established policies and procedures.
• Ensure patient care activity data are documented in accordance with established guidelines.

Qualifications & Experience

• Not less than 1 year as a respiratory therapist.
• Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Therapy or Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy (minimum two years course duration).
• Current National License as Respiratory Therapist.
