QC Engineer

Role Overview

QC Engineer at Al Jomaih Energy and Water, based in Taweelah, Abu Dhabi, UAE (approximately 30–40 km from Abu Dhabi city). This is a greenfield CCGT project with a net power capacity of 2400 MW. The position is for approximately 36 months.

AEW invests in 6 GW of conventional and solar power plants, and approximately 700,000 m³/day of water. Role Purpose

The QC Engineer will oversee and ensure the quality of construction and engineering projects throughout the full lifecycle, from design and engineering to construction and operation. The role is crucial for implementing and maintaining quality control processes, conducting inspections, and collaborating with project teams to uphold high-quality standards in a dynamic and innovative environment.

Key Responsibilities

Project Quality Management

• Develop, implement, and manage quality control processes and procedures while ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and project specifications.
• Evaluate and manage the quality performance of suppliers and subcontractors, establishing selection criteria and coordinating with contractors, suppliers, and project teams to uphold quality standards.
• Create and execute QA/QC plans, inspection test plans (ITPs), and conduct root cause analysis to address non-conformances, implementing corrective and preventive actions effectively.

Inspection and Testing

• Conduct regular inspections of construction activities, materials, and equipment.
• Perform quality control tests to verify adherence to project requirements.
• Apply skilled interpretation of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques including radiography, ultrasonic testing, and magnetic particle testing.

Safety and Compliance

• Maintain strong understanding of safety standards, risk assessment, and quality compliance in mechanical and piping engineering.
• Demonstrate familiarity with ISO 45001 international standard for occupational health and safety.

Document Control, Reporting, and Communication

• Establish and maintain a comprehensive document control system to ensure accurate and up-to-date record-keeping of inspection reports, quality documentation, and compliance assessments.
• Prepare regular quality control reports for project management and stakeholders, effectively communicating findings, trends, and recommendations to drive quality improvements.
• Leverage strong analytical and interpersonal skills to identify and resolve quality issues while collaborating across teams and engaging stakeholders in achieving quality objectives.

Training and Guidance

• Provide training and guidance to project teams on quality control procedures and best practices.
• Collaborate with project managers to address quality-related issues and implement corrective actions.

Non-Conformance Management

• Identify and document non-conformities and deviations from quality standards.
• Work with project teams to develop and implement corrective and preventive actions.

Continuous Improvement

• Analyze quality control processes to identify improvements and implement best practices for enhanced QA/QC outcomes.
• Commit to continuous improvement through Lean or Six Sigma methodologies and adapt to evolving technologies and standards in quality assurance.
• Carry out any task required by the QA/QC Manager.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience in QA/QC mechanical and piping engineering within Power (CCGT) or EPC projects.
• Certification as a Quality Engineer (CQE) or Quality Auditor (CQA) through ASQ, and/or certification in ISO 9001 (e.g., Lead Auditor) is highly desirable.
• Certification in NDT methods is required; certification in welding inspection (e.g., AWS Certified Welding Inspector – CWI) is a plus.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems and experience participating in audits.
• Previous experience in a senior engineering role is preferred.

Skills & Competencies

• Proficient in industry standards and codes such as ASME, API, ANSI, ASTM, and ISO, with particular focus on pressure piping, welding, and material specifications.
• Skilled in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques including radiography, ultrasonic testing, and magnetic particle testing, with ability to interpret results.
• Experience with quality management software and tools such as Aconex, Procore, Primavera, or similar QA/QC tracking and documentation platforms is advantageous.
• Strong analytical and interpersonal skills for cross-team collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
