Role Overview

PMC Senior Project Engineer at Wood PLC, based full-time in Abu Dhabi. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer with a proven track record in leading and coordinating engineering teams to ensure the successful planning, execution, and completion of technical projects for a high-profile client.

Role Purpose

Ensure successful project delivery by leading engineering teams, managing technical scope, controlling quality, cost and schedule, mitigating risks, and coordinating stakeholders including client and contractors. Deliver projects on time, within budget, and to specified standards while acting as the main technical liaison for the client.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership and Coordination

• Oversee a team that manages and coordinates engineering multidiscipline inputs and deliverables across multiple execution centers including workshare and high-value engineering centers.
• Supervise work of technical professionals in the delivery of engineering deliverables including checking work.
• Coordinate and manage inputs from large interdisciplinary teams, typically 50 or more.
• Provide communication to project team; demonstrate strong public speaking and ability to lead people to participate and contribute.
• Manage and enhance performance and build effective teams.

Engineering Scope and Planning

• Appraise the Project Engineering team of the key execution principles and the contractual basis of the project.
• Prepare Discipline Design Instructions.
• Prepare and check Project Engineering Manpower Plans.
• Prepare multidiscipline contract requisition scopes.
• Interface with discipline managers for resources.
• Create and implement work plan for discipline and inter-discipline interfaces; identify key dates, milestones and deliverables; drive for completion; manage forecasts.
• Create work share plan.
• Develop deep understanding of technical work scopes and commercial aspects of projects.

Quality, Health, Safety and Assurance

• Check compliance with Project Quality System; audit projects; proactively drive team.
• Ensure Health, Safety, Environment and Security reviews are planned and implemented; support initiatives.
• Manage the development of project-specific procedures.
• Assure quality of engineering deliverables before issue to customer.

Schedule and Change Management

• Develop and manage schedule.
• Resolve escalated delays and changes; ensure recovery plans are implemented and reviewed.
• Use knowledge of conditions of contract to support decisions on schedules, key milestones and change management.
• Understand customer needs and deliver customer satisfaction; actively monitor and support initiatives.
• Quantify effects of change project-wide; develop mitigation plans against change; drive change management.
• Robustly manage change and apply change management practices.

Design Verification

• Drive and participate in Design Verification; drive others to complete.
• Understand risk and mitigation requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Typically requires 15 years in a project delivery environment.
• Experience in mega EPC/EPCM projects is required.
• Previous experience with ADNOC projects or PMC would be an advantage but is not a limitation.
• Extensive experience in delivering to internal customers, including other Engineering disciplines.
• Expert knowledge of standards, procedures and work practices; able to follow project execution flow chart; developing skills in project and technical execution.
• Able to lead Project Engineering team; able to manage between Engineering Discipline Groups.

Skills & Competencies

• Deep understanding of technical work scopes and commercial aspects of projects.
• Good working and application knowledge of specifications and standards.
• Familiar with change management practices and able to robustly manage change.
• Expert ability in application of procedures and work practices which define and govern Engineering Management and Project Engineering deliverables.
• Able to use conditions of contract to support decisions on schedules, key milestones and change management.
• Good communicator in leading work effort; motivate team; strong positive and active in solutions and proactive attitude.
• Competent at managing technical matters and interfaces with Third Parties.
