Role Overview

Physiotherapist (UAE National) at SEHA, providing safe, effective, evidence-based and comprehensive physiotherapy services in an acute care or rehabilitation facility setting.

Role Purpose

Deliver advanced physiotherapy assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation services for patients with complex conditions. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, supervise junior staff, ensure quality and safety standards, maintain accurate documentation, and support continuous improvement in patient care while promoting optimal recovery outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Assessment & Treatment

• Undertake comprehensive assessment of patients, including those with diverse or complex multi-pathology presentations, using highly specialized and advanced clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques.
• Formulate and deliver highly specialized individual physiotherapy treatment programs based on sound knowledge of evidence-based practice and treatment options using advanced clinical assessment and reasoning skills.
• Deliver treatment using manual techniques, electrotherapy, patient education, appliances, exercise classes, and alternative options.
• Formulate accurate physiotherapy prognoses, recommend best course of intervention, and develop comprehensive discharge plans.
• Test and measure patients' function including strength, motor development and function, sensory perception, functional capacity, and respiratory and circulatory efficiency, recording all data.
• Evaluate patient progress, reassess, and alter treatment programs as required.
• Gather, collate, and analyze information needed to solve a variety of clinical and professional problems at a highly advanced level.
• Perform home physiotherapy as required.
• Travel with patients whenever required within and outside the United Arab Emirates for physiotherapy treatment.

Patient Communication & Education

• Use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate effectively with patients to progress rehabilitation and treatment programs.
• Support patients with difficulties in understanding or communicating, including those who are mentally unwell, dysphasic, depressed, deaf, or blind.
• Interpret for patients if bilingual and required.
• Communicate in a professional and courteous manner with patients, family, and other care providers to explain procedures, clarify orders, and communicate status.

Supervision & Management

• Supervise junior staff and ensure their adherence to ongoing policies and procedures as applied and implemented in the Section, Department, or Facility.
• Deputize for Senior Physiotherapist if requested.
• Work in an interdisciplinary manner, communicating and working alongside physiotherapy colleagues and other healthcare staff where combined treatment and/or management is indicated.
• Interact courteously with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers when answering questions or providing other information.

Equipment & Resource Management

• Maintain sufficient inventory of material supplies and equipment for performance of duties.
• Report shortage of materials to supervisor at earliest convenience.
• Order and approve replenishments when necessary.
• Maintain and monitor adequate stock levels, supplements, and primary resources, and advise on their appropriate use within the work area.
• Ensure safe and competent use of all electrotherapy equipment, gym equipment, pool equipment, and patient appliances and aids by patients.
• Ensure junior staff and assistants attain competency prior to equipment use.
• Maintain responsibility for the day-to-day safe and competent use of equipment in own area, which may be of high value, used by patients and staff.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

• Promote and maintain quality in all services and ensure continuous quality improvement measures are in place.
• Conduct method evaluation and development as per standard policies and procedures.
• Comply with all safety, health, and quality control programs and procedures as applicable.
• Comply with applicable precautions for environmental safety and infection control, using a series of interventions that minimize or prevent cross infection.
• Practice within the expressed limits of established policies and procedures.
• Ensure that standard operation procedures and Quality Assurance tests are maintained within all sections.
• Document all interventions in appropriate format.
• Comply with and support clinical audit processes within the service and report on these as agreed.
• Safeguard patients against misuse of power that leads to patient abuse, including physical, mental, sexual abuse, or neglect.

Documentation & Confidentiality

• Maintain the strictest confidence in relation to patient information whether formally or informally recorded.
• Ensure responsible documentation of all clinical work.

Education & Development

• Assist in training of students if required.

Additional Duties

• Accept any other duties consistent with qualifications, experience, and ability when requested by superior.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Physiotherapist in a large hospital with relevant experience treating patients with same diagnoses seen in acute care hospital or rehabilitation facilities.
