Role Overview
Performance Improvement and Patient Safety (PIPS) Program Coordinator - Burns at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC).
Role Purpose
Under the direction of the Operations Manager (Burns) and Chair of Burns, develop, implement, and evaluate the burn program and performance improvement and patient safety (PIPS) program consistent with SSMC Health Performance Standards.
Key Responsibilities
Performance Improvement
- Participate in Quality Management and Performance Improvement activities.
- Identify patient care, system, and process issues and trends.
- Assist with chart reviews.
- Conduct data collection.
- Prepare for case presentations.
- Work with the Chair of Burns, Operations Manager (Burns), and all other departments to investigate and resolve identified issues and opportunities for improvement related to burn care delivery.
- Monitor, review, and analyze data and reports extracted from the registry and all other relevant reports.
- Assist in the development and revision of administrative policies and clinical nursing guidelines and standards of care for program patients in collaboration with appropriate disciplines.
- Participate in departmental meetings.
- Attend conventions, conferences, workshops, and other professional meetings to extend learning and represent the Burn Center.
- Assist the Operations Manager (Burns) and Chair of Burns to update the Burns PIPS program annually.
- Track PIPS reviews and action plans.
- Identify, document, and resolve performance improvement processes.
Program Leadership
- Develop and maintain the Performance Improvement and Patient Safety program.
- Serve as a technical expert in program development.
- Provide guidance to employees involved in the program.
- Provide performance feedback to applicable managers.
- Evaluate and report to departmental and organizational senior management on status and changes in the program.
Service Delivery
- Participate in case review.
- Design and implement practice guidelines.
- Role model service excellence in interactions with internal and external constituents.
- Establish strong cooperative relationships with applicable leaders by providing the information, tools, and services necessary to improve outcomes associated with the program.
Communication
- Design and orchestrate the delivery of applicable communication to internal and external constituents.
- Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication using a variety of methodologies.
- Coordinate presentations.
- Ensure consistent communication related to the program.
- Participate in the review of program processes.
- Recommend and participate in implementation of process improvements.
- Monitor and measure process changes.
- Facilitate cross-functional performance improvement teams.
Strategic Planning
- Work collaboratively with appropriate stakeholders to develop the strategic plan for the burn program both internally and externally.
Resource Management
- Work with other relevant program operations managers to design the burn registry to facilitate performance improvement activities, trend reports, and research while protecting confidentiality.
Research
- Collaborate with other appropriate departments and entities (internal and external) for all research opportunities relating to the burn program.
Administrative Role
- Participate in various hospital processes including Quality, Research, and Leadership.
- Focus on program goals and patient satisfaction.
- Facilitate development and execution of PIPS program.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- Bachelor Degree in a health-related field.
- Two years' work experience.
Desired
- Current national professional license or equivalent.
- Trauma Outcomes Performance Improvement Course completion (or within 6 months of starting the role if not completed).
- Two years' experience in burn or trauma care.
- Experience in quality-related activity.
- Trauma Program Manager Course Completion (optional).
- Recognized Registrar Certification CAIS or CSTR (optional).
- Quality Management Certification (optional).
Additional Information
