Role Overview
Mechanical/Piping Engineer position with Al Jomaih Energy and Water, located in Taweelah, Abu Dhabi, UAE. The role supports a greenfield Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) project with a net power capacity of 2400 MW, including ancillary equipment, associated infrastructure, and facilities. The project is situated approximately 50 km north-east of Abu Dhabi. The assignment is for approximately 3 to 4 months.

Role Purpose
The Pipe Engineer oversees and manages various aspects of piping systems in energy and water projects, playing a crucial role in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of piping systems. The role ensures compliance with industry standards, regulations, and project specifications throughout the full lifecycle of the project, from design and engineering to construction and operation.
Key Responsibilities
Supervision & Oversight
- Review and monitor EPC Contractor's piping design deliverables including isometrics, general arrangement drawings, stress analysis, and material specifications.
- Review design elements of gas/steam turbines, HRSG, condensers, pumps, valves, and auxiliary mechanical equipment.
- Ensure design complies with project codes and standards such as ASME, ASTM, and EN.
- Validate technical solutions for pipe supports, routing, and interface with equipment and structures.
Construction Monitoring
- Supervise piping fabrication and erection activities on-site.
- Ensure adherence to approved drawings, quality plans, and installation procedures.
- Review contractor's Method Statements and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
- Participate in inspections and witness testing including hydrotests, flushing, and NDT activities.
Quality and Safety
- Monitor construction quality and report non-conformances.
- Follow up on corrective actions.
- Enforce safety practices and participate in Toolbox Talks and site safety walks.
- Accept individual responsibility for own safety and share responsibility with fellow workers and line supervision to monitor safety.
- Comply with and constructively participate in Project HSSE activities.
- Work in a safe manner and contribute to implementation of the Incident and Injury Free philosophy.
- Stop any unsafe act or behavior observed and report it to line supervisor/manager.
- Take reasonable care for the safety of themselves and other personnel at the workplace who may be affected by any acts or omissions.
- Cooperate with employer in ensuring that the workplace is as safe and healthy as is reasonably practical.
- Report any hazard, potential hazard, incident, personal injury, accident, or near miss to HSSE staff immediately.
- Correctly use, store, and maintain PPE issued for protection against workplace hazards.
- Follow all verbal or written safe work procedures, practices, and directions.
- Observe all warning signs and notices.
- Attend toolbox meetings and all other HSSE meetings as required.
- Attend all scheduled relevant HSSE training courses.
- Comply with work instructions and permit requirements.
Progress and Coordination
- Track progress of piping activities and identify and escalate delays or risks.
- Coordinate interfaces between piping systems and other disciplines including civil, mechanical, and electrical.
- Support resolution of site technical queries and construction issues.
Documentation and Handover
- Review and comment on as-built documentation, test reports, and turnover packages.
- Ensure proper documentation is maintained for project close-out and commissioning readiness.
Reporting
- Prepare weekly progress reports highlighting key risks, issues, and achievements.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, piping engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5β7 years of proven experience as a Piping Mechanical Engineer in Power (CCGT) or EPC projects.
- Strong knowledge of turbine systems, HRSG, BOP systems, cooling water systems, and auxiliary equipment.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly desirable.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of piping engineering principles, practices, and standards.
- Proficiency in piping design software and computer-aided design (CAD) tools.
- Excellent project management and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
