Role Overview
Materials Inspector at AtkinsRéalis. The role is based on inspection, sampling, and testing of roadwork materials to ensure compliance with specifications and standards, including control of material traceability, storage, acceptance, and documentation.

Role Purpose
To inspect incoming materials, witness testing, verify documentation, and monitor storage and protection of roadwork materials onsite. Ensure all materials conform to specifications, standards, ITPs, MS, and PQP, maintaining lot-wise acceptance records and material traceability throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Material Inspection & Acceptance
- Inspect incoming materials (aggregates, asphalt, concrete, steel, geotextiles) against approvals.
- Verify batch tickets, delivery notes, mill certificates, and calibration certificates.
- Maintain lot-wise material acceptance records and traceability.
Testing & Compliance
- Witness field and lab tests including sieve analysis, Atterberg limits, compaction/density, slump, cubes, and Marshall.
- Check asphalt mix temperature, gradation, and binder content during paving.
- Ensure conformance to ITPs, MS, and PQP.
Material Management
- Monitor storage, segregation, and protection of materials onsite.
- Control material traceability and documentation.
Quality Assurance & Corrective Action
- Raise NCRs and follow corrective actions.
- Coordinate with third-party labs and QA/QC on test schedules and results.
Qualifications & Experience
- Solid knowledge of ASTM/BS/EN testing methods.
- Hands-on experience with lab and field equipment and acceptance criteria.
- Understanding of asphalt plant QC and concrete batching.
