Maintenance Lead Engineer- Mechanical

Role Overview

Maintenance Lead Engineer – Mechanical at Al Jomaih Energy and Water. The role leads mechanical maintenance operations for large-scale combined cycle power plant systems and manages a team of maintenance engineers and technicians.

Role Purpose

To develop, execute, and oversee comprehensive maintenance planning for all mechanical systems and equipment; lead and mentor a maintenance team; ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards; and support pre-operational commissioning activities to achieve safe, reliable, and cost-effective plant operations.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance Planning & Execution

• Develop and implement inspection, maintenance, and repair schedules for all mechanical systems and equipment, including gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, condensers, heat recovery steam generators (HRSG), pumps, compressors, HVAC, and ancillary systems.
• Ensure necessary tooling is available and maintained.
• Ensure necessary third-party certification is obtained and current.

Team Leadership

• Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of mechanical maintenance engineers and technicians to ensure efficient maintenance operations and achieve targets and objectives.
• Foster a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement among team members.

Technical Support

• Provide technical guidance and support to maintenance staff for troubleshooting and problem resolution of mechanical issues.
• Provide in-house training to enhance team skills in technical and safety areas.
• Conduct root cause analysis of mechanical failures and implement corrective measures.

Project Management

• Plan and oversee mechanical maintenance projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
• Coordinate with other departments (operations, electrical, and instrumentation) to schedule maintenance work with minimal disruption to plant operations.

Budget and Resource Management

• Assist the Maintenance Manager in the preparation of the annual maintenance budget and manage resource allocation effectively.
• Monitor maintenance costs and identify opportunities for cost reductions without compromising safety or reliability.

Procurement & Storage

• Ensure adequate inventories of spares and consumables and ensure timely procurement for efficient operation.
• Prepare purchase requisitions for spare parts and consumables.
• Perform technical evaluation of quotations received from the purchase department and recommend appropriate choice.

Compliance and Safety

• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices.
• Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and initiate safety improvement programs.
• Ensure compliance with corporate and site-specific procedures and work instructions.

Documentation and Reporting

• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and inventory.
• Prepare detailed reports on maintenance work, performance metrics, and project status for management review.
• Develop, implement, and track KPIs.

Continuous Improvement

• Identify and implement improvement initiatives in mechanical maintenance processes and workflows.
• Stay abreast of industry trends, advancements in technology, and maintenance best practices.

Pre-PCOD Activities

• Support the owner during the design review phase and during installation, commissioning, testing, and trial operation period.
• Review and finalize O&M manuals and initial spare parts lists.
• Develop the Master Equipment List.
• Develop and implement CMMS.
• Identify spares and maintenance strategy based on criticality study of equipment.
• Prepare site-specific maintenance procedures and work instructions.
• Ensure maintenance team authorization as Permit Receivers.
• Ensure timely placement of subcontracts.
• Ensure readiness for the operational period by confirming all staff are trained and all systems and processes required for O&M operations are ready.
• Ensure that the plant is fit for purpose to be taken over and that the plant is designed, built, commissioned, and tested as per the EPC Contract and other Project Agreements.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in mechanical maintenance in large-scale combined cycle power plants.
• IPP and Siemens Gas Turbine experience is preferred.
• Proven experience leading maintenance teams.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficiency in mechanical maintenance systems, reliability engineering, and condition monitoring techniques.
• Familiarity with maintenance management software (CMMS).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
