Lead Technical Safety Engineer

Role Overview

Lead Technical Safety Engineer with Wood PLC, supporting the ADNOC Offshore project in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The position will be based at the client office in Abu Dhabi.

Role Purpose

Provide technical safety expertise across all design and engineering phases of the ADNOC Offshore project, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and ADNOC standards. Coordinate technical safety activities with the EPC Contractor and internal teams, review deliverables for quality and compliance, and resolve technical issues to maintain engineering integrity and execution standards.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Safety Expertise & Compliance

• Provide expertise in all technical safety matters throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ensure design and engineering compliance with relevant codes and ADNOC standards.
• Perform regular and timely technical reviews of technical safety deliverables developed by engineering consultants and contractors, ensuring design quality in compliance with relevant codes, standards, and best practices.
• Review and approve engineering consultant and EPC Contractor work, ensuring compliance with ADNOC project specifications, relevant codes and standards, and best industry practices.

Coordination & Integration

• Ensure integration of the overall technical safety team and coordinate within the IPMT Technical Safety Team.
• Coordinate and monitor technical safety design and engineering with the EPC Contractor as per project expectation and complete within the established timeframe.
• Work with other discipline engineers within IPMT, the EPC Contractor, and ADNOC Engineering, Operation, and Site Interface to resolve technical issues and ensure quality discipline engineering execution and integrity.
• Provide technical assistance and coordination with other discipline engineers.
• Interface regularly with the Contractor's Engineering and Project Management team and discipline engineers as required.

Design Optimization & Review

• Coordinate the required engineering participation in the development and analysis of various design options and business models.
• Contribute input and expertise in the development and analysis of various design options and business models to design optimization and validation.
• Participate in teams for equipment sizing and equipment selection considering optimization and standardization.
• Participate in layout reviews, model reviews, design reviews, and technical workshops.
• Coordinate technical reviews, bid evaluation, and performance evaluation.

Facility & Environmental Standards

• Ensure that facilities are designed in accordance with the latest corporate guidelines with respect to environment and health aspects.
• Ensure full utilization of existing facilities while optimizing the facilities required for new projects.

Quality Assurance

• Ensure quality technical safety engineering by consulting firms and EPC Contractor technical safety design activities.

Execution Support

• Provide technical assistance during installation, pre-commissioning, and commissioning phases.

Reporting & Interface

• Report to the ADNOC Discipline Team Leader and Engineering Manager.
• Provide support to Project Managers and Engineers within the Project Management Team organization.
• Interface with Managers, Team Leaders, and Engineers in the company's Technical Departments, Business Units, Operations Units, and Logistics Department.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in oil and gas industry upstream offshore sector, working for competitors' organizations such as Kent, KBR, Worley, Petrofac, or Saipem.
• PMC experience is highly preferable.
• Large projects experience is a must.
• Middle East / GCC experience on projects with Saudi Aramco, Qatar Energy, or PDO is a must.
• Experience and detailed knowledge of relevant international codes and standards.
