Lead Mechanical Engineer

Role Overview

Lead Mechanical Engineer at ABIS. This is a leadership position specializing in rotating equipment within an EPC environment, based in Saudi Arabia (SABIC/Saudi Aramco operations context).

Role Purpose

Lead the mechanical discipline across one or multiple projects, managing all engineering activities from proposal through commissioning. Provide technical expertise, coordinate interdisciplinary efforts, and ensure safety and quality of deliverables in an EPC environment.

Key Responsibilities

Planning & Scheduling

• Plan, schedule, monitor and control all engineering activities of the Mechanical Discipline.
• Act as a good planner and executor with high importance given to timelines and schedules.

Coordination & Team Management

• Lead interdisciplinary coordination and support team building exercises.
• Foster and instill team spirit among colleagues.
• Mentor team members and remain open to sharing knowledge.
• Ensure customer satisfaction and appreciation.

Proactive Management

• Be proactive rather than reactive in identifying issues and problems.
• Highlight any issues or problems to management to enable timely remedial action.
• Participate actively in progress review meetings, technical meetings, client meetings, and vendor meetings.

Engineering & Technical Delivery

• Actively participate in proposal and bidding activities on a daily basis during the engineering phase.
• Develop and prepare technical specifications and data sheets for Pumps (Centrifugal, Reciprocating, Positive Displacement, Screw type and all ranges—small, medium, and large).
• Develop and prepare technical specifications and data sheets for Compressors (Instrument Air, Process Air, Nitrogen, Low Pressure, High Pressure, and Side stream Gas Compressors, Refrigeration Compressors).
• Review and comment on GES plus engineering deliverables on a case-by-case basis.
• Ensure safety and quality of deliverables.

Procurement Support

• Support procurement-related activities including raising Material Requisitions (MR).
• Support Technical Bid Clarification and Evaluation (TBC/TBE) activities.
• Draft Purchase Requisitions.

Bidding Support

• Support the bidding team by raising RFQs.
• Conduct technical evaluation of bids.
• Prepare cost estimates.

Construction & Commissioning Support

• Provide technical support during construction and commissioning phases as required.
• Respond to construction site-related technical queries (TQ).
• Attend FAT/SAT activities.
• Support pre-commissioning activities.

Value Engineering & Risk Management

• Participate in value engineering practices, lessons learned sessions, and workshops.
• Participate in Risk Assessment and Management Studies.
• Participate in Constructability studies and workshops.
• Actively participate in Safety Studies such as QRA, ENVID, HAZID, HAZOP, and SIL.

Qualifications & Experience

Experience

• 10+ years combined experience in Oil and Gas, Petrochemicals, and Power Industry.
• Experience working with GES plus and EPC Contractors on Saudi Aramco jobs, SABIC, and other reputed organizations.
• Experience attending FAT/SAT activities.
• Experience supporting pre-commissioning activities.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BS, BE, or B Tech).
• Training and certification courses.

Technical Knowledge — Rotating Equipment

• Comprehensive knowledge of rotating equipment in Oil and Gas, Petrochemicals, Power, and Water Industries.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Mechanical Seal systems and their application in line with industry standards and process requirements.

Standards, Codes & Regulations

• Sound command of Saudi Aramco, SABIC, DEP, and Royal Commission Standards, Codes, and Practices.
• Sound command of HCIS Standards and Regulations.
• Sound command of International Codes and Standards: ASME, ANSI, API, ATEX, JIS, CSA, NEC, NFPA, FM, and UL.

Related Systems Knowledge

• Sound knowledge of Piping, Civil/Structural, Electrical, Instrumentation, and Control requirements when specifying and preparing data sheets for rotating equipment.
• Knowledge of static equipment such as tanks, spheres, columns, furnaces, reactors, exchangers, and pressure vessels (advantageous).
