Role Overview

HUB Cargo Officer at Etihad Airways, based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. This is a shift-based position open to UAE nationals only.

Role Purpose

Manage and complete cargo warehouse operations on a shift basis, overseeing key activities, routes, and products while meeting defined performance requirements in relation to On-Time Performance, Cargo IQ, Service Level Agreements, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Planning & Oversight

• Monitor inbound quality by assessing physical build and validating weight and volume to avoid stow loss.
• Optimize onward connections and maximize revenue through messaging including pre-alerts, contacts, FWB/FHL, and SHCs.
• Monitor red routes and space optimization in line with cargo load planning using cargo spot for pre-carrying shipments.
• Review connections and identify potential no-shows, misconnections, and opportunities for load replacement or swap.
• Spot-check HDU and TRU units from network to ensure units are topped up to maximum space or coordinate with origin for volume updates in system for possible adjustment of freight charges.

Operations & Service Delivery

• Establish and maintain close working relationships with Service Providers to ensure sufficient resources and achieve On-Time Departure Performance for freighter and RFS operations.
• Implement best practices and obtain buy-in from Service Providers to reduce operational discrepancies and support improved capacity utilization.
• Support the Cargo Operations Center Duty Manager to deliver departmental and corporate targets and goals.
• Monitor work progress and services to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements including Health, Security, and Safety, such as ULD proper lashing and securing and wearing of PPE.

Compliance & Safety

• Ensure compliance with all Etihad procedures and regulatory requirements in relation to safety, security, and Dangerous Goods.
• Support establishment of best practices to enable revenue budget achievement, support service delivery, cost savings, and compliance with Safety and Security regulations.

Performance Management & Development

• Support implementation of measurement tools to gauge overall flight and resource performance.
• Implement KPIs to highlight business needs and requirements.
• Provide on-job training, coaching, and advice to GHA staff to upgrade their skills, knowledge, and confidence level.
• Demonstrate flexibility with operational shift requirements and cross-skill functionality across all positions below the title position, with focus on continuous development of competency level.

Qualifications & Experience

• High school level education minimum, with acquired specialization in cargo handling operations.
• At least 3 years of cargo operations experience.
• Successful completion of cargo and dangerous goods courses.
• Successful completion of courses in live animals, aircraft weight and balance, and general cargo procedures.
• Fully conversant with cargo handling processes, procedures, and regulatory compliance expectations.

Skills & Competencies

• Proficiency in cargo handling processes and procedures.
• Knowledge of Cargo IQ systems and cargo load planning tools, including cargo spot.
• Understanding of On-Time Performance, Service Level Agreements, and revenue optimization.
• Ability to work flexibly across multiple operational positions.
