Role Overview

Guideway & Third Rail Technician at Hitachi Rail STS S.p.A., based in Riyadh. Full-time position, starting as soon as possible. This role is not remote.

Role Purpose

Constantly monitor the performance of the ongoing maintenance regime to ensure continual improvement of assets reliability and availability while optimizing lifecycle cost. The position requires a self-motivated, proactive individual capable of growing long-term within railway and mass transit signaling systems.

Key Responsibilities

Preventive and Corrective Maintenance

• Assist the Team Leader in executing all levels of preventive and corrective maintenance activities in accordance with approved Maintenance Plans.
• Follow implemented safety rules and processes during all maintenance work.
• Conduct routine inspections and unscheduled maintenance as directed.
• Inspect parts for surface defects and surface damage.
• Change consumable items as required.
• Perform minor repairs and technical cleaning of all third rail and track systems.

Maintenance Documentation and Records

• Ensure all maintenance activity completed is logged appropriately on the Maintenance Management System.
• Produce and maintain accurate maintenance records of third rail and track, tools, and work accomplished using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).

Compliance and Procedures

• Follow the appropriate and approved maintenance procedures and instructions to ensure compliance with requirements and safe systems of work as guided by the Team Leader.
• Ensure that appropriate, certified tools and equipment are used in all works, including inspections.
• Ensure maintenance tools are calibrated, in date where required, and in good condition prior to use.

Asset Management and Support

• Be aware of surroundings and report any maintenance issues that have not already been identified.
• Collaborate with the Team Leader and colleagues in Operations departments effectively.
• Assist the Team Leader and other technical support staff to implement asset configuration change.

Operations and General Duties

• Perform shift and emergency duties as and when required.
• Drive automotive equipment to work sites as and when required.
• Perform and carry out duties as instructed or directed by the Team Leader or Supervisor.

Safety-Critical Responsibilities

• Perform roles necessary for the management of the safe system of work, including meeting tight maintenance schedules.
• Implement and follow Permit to Work process.
• Operate points locally.
• Communicate with Signalers and Line Controllers.
• Communicate with electrical control operators.
• Communicate with persons responsible for a Track Possession, Worksite or movements of rail vehicles within a Possession.
• Manage safety-critical communications from others.
• Protect a rail vehicle stopped by an accident, failure, obstruction or other exceptional incident.
• Control the movement of a rail vehicle.
• Work as a Pilotman during single line working or emergencies.
• Check that goods are properly and safely loaded.
• Install track, components or structures supporting the permanent way.
• Maintain track, components or structures supporting the permanent way.
• Install and commission new infrastructure.
• Inspect track.
• Check the settings and calibrations on an OTM prior to use on the running line.
• Operate an OTM that alters the track profile.
• Operate a vehicle on the permanent way to carry out maintenance on the permanent way or supporting structures, including the use of rail, road/rail, road wheeled or tracked vehicles.
• Protect people working on or near the track.
• Protect people in possessions.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum 2 years' experience in maintenance roles.
• 2–3 years of experience in maintenance of third rail and tracks in the railway industry.
• Previous metro system maintenance experience.
• Vocational Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering is an added advantage.
• Should be completely aware of the interference and consequences of a failure in the track in a metro system.
