Role Overview
Wood PLC is recruiting a Graduate Instrument & Control Engineer for its Oil, Gas & New Energies business in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. This is a full-time, office-based position for UAE nationals.

Role Purpose
To develop foundational expertise in Instrument & Control engineering by supporting design activities, creating technical documentation, coordinating with interdisciplinary teams, and gaining practical field experience on high-profile energy sector projects while building proficiency in industry-standard tools and relevant standards.
Key Responsibilities
Design Support
- Develop solid understanding of I&C engineering fundamentals by supporting design activities.
- Assist in instrument selection, sizing, datasheets, and control philosophy preparation.
- Support control system studies by assisting with alarm rationalization, SIL assessments, and basic control logic development under mentor guidance.
Technical Documentation & Drawings
- Assist in creating and reviewing I&C documentation including hook-up drawings, cable schedules, instrument indexes, cause & effect diagrams, and I/O lists.
- Develop loop diagrams.
Tools & Standards
- Enhance proficiency in industry-standard tools such as SPI (INtools), AutoCAD, PLC/DCS configuration basics.
- Learn and apply relevant standards and codes such as ISA, IEC, NEC, and API to ensure compliance and technical accuracy in design tasks.
Interdisciplinary Coordination
- Support interdisciplinary coordination with Process, Mechanical, Electrical, and Piping teams to ensure I&C requirements are fully integrated into project deliverables.
Field Activities & Commissioning
- Participate in field activities such as site surveys, instrument inspections, loop checks, and commissioning support to gain practical experience.
Professional Development
- Invest in continuous development by completing I&C training modules covering control systems, instrumentation basics, and safety systems.
- Actively seek feedback to improve technical capabilities.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation & Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited university.
- Basic understanding of instrumentation principles, sensors, control systems, PLCs, DCS, and automation concepts.
- Familiarity with key industry standards such as ISA, IEC, NEC, and API at basic level.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, and control narratives.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with good attention to detail.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities to work effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Exposure to engineering software such as SPI/INtools, AutoCAD, and basic PLC/DCS simulation tools (advantageous).
- Willingness to learn, adapt, and take part in on-the-job training, site visits, and technical development programs.
