Role Overview

Role Purpose

Provide strategic direction and professional leadership to achieve organisational, business, shareholder, and contractual objectives in the short, medium, and long term through continuous improvement and best practice.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Direction

  • Provide strategic direction and sound leadership to functional managers to set and achieve short, medium, and long-term objectives, performance targets, and plans.
  • Develop, implement, and execute company strategy in accordance with shareholder objectives.
  • Support functional managers to proactively develop and maintain strategic business partnerships to optimize asset life and condition based on good asset management principles.

Policy & Governance

  • Formulate company policies to achieve business and contractual objectives.
  • Ensure the implementation and compliance of all company policies, procedures, legal obligations, and contractual obligations.
  • Act as signatory in accordance with the approved VeBes signatory matrix.

Operations

  • Guide, coordinate, and ensure timely execution of departmental strategies.
  • Direct and ensure efficient and effective resource and contract management.
  • Oversee financial, HR, and O&M management activities to ensure optimum balance between contractual obligations and shareholder expectations.
  • Develop and direct the company budget activities to achieve targets and objectives.

Stakeholder Management

  • Report to and liaise with the Management Committee, shareholders, and stakeholders.
  • Represent the company and its shareholders by fostering effective professional relations at the highest levels.
  • Liaise and communicate with shareholders and stakeholders as and when appropriate.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Ensure a fair working environment and fostering of employee growth at all levels.
  • Facilitate and encourage information sharing for the benefit of the VeBes O&M Company.
  • Assist, support, coach, and guide the VeBes O&M team members to improve performance.
  • Promote team building and ensure good team work.

Environment, Health & Safety

  • Ensure, encourage, and monitor safe work practices on site on a zero tolerance approach.
  • Proactive approach towards ensuring safe work practices and safe behavior.

Reporting & Organization

  • Assess and guide the development, improvement, and timely delivery of reports and tools to improve overall company efficiency and client/stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Arrange and coordinate Management Committee meetings and take minutes.
  • Attend meetings, interviews, safety walks, regional events, etc. when required.

Communication

  • Ensure effective and prompt communication internally and externally.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Recognized degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or equivalent.
  • Recognized management development qualification.

Experience

  • 15 years continuous experience in water-related or industrial environment.
  • Minimum 8 years senior management experience.

  • Good knowledge of relevant wastewater treatment plant processes and related activities.
  • Excellent knowledge of asset management and related principles.

  • Excellent time and work load management and able to work under pressure.

  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • Communicate accurately, correctly, timely, effectively, and in an appropriate manner via email, documentation, and verbal communication.
  • Excellent and accurate report writing skills with good use of English and technical terminology.

Interpersonal & Leadership

  • Excellent inter-personal, negotiation, and conflict handling skills.
  • Ability to work in a multi-national and multi-cultural team environment.
  • Ability to lead and implement change management.

IT Skills

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google apps.
