Role Purpose

Direct the operation, servicing, and repair of heavy equipment and vehicles. Plan and supervise the activities of employees engaged in equipment operation and maintenance. Ensure safe, compliant working practices and deliver required results with appropriate quality and cost efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Equipment Management

• Direct the operation, servicing, and repair of heavy equipment.
• Plan and supervise the activities of employees engaged in the operation and repair of heavy equipment.
• Check with operators to ensure excellent use and handling of equipment.
• Direct the team to execute the maintenance plan for equipment and vehicles.
• Direct the team to determine requirements for oils, greases, filters, wear parts, and spare parts every quarter.
• Follow up with document controllers and senior mechanical technicians to arrange maintenance cards.
• Maintain comprehensive records for each item of equipment with respect to downtime, mechanical malfunctions, and repairs necessary.
• Assemble reports on the operating costs of various models of equipment.

Reporting & Communication

• Report breakdown root causes, equipment faults, and concerns to management.
• Provide periodic work progress reports.
• Deliver the required results in a timely manner with required quality and cost.

People Management & Development

• Recruit, recognize, and cultivate high performers and expose them in order to create a robust second line of management.
• Recognize low performance and help or release them.
• Treat people equally without any discrimination.
• Assist with interviewing potential employees, train and evaluate new operators.
• Develop organizational structure according to current requirements taking into consideration future and development plans.
• Ensure availability of job descriptions for all job roles and deploy them.
• Base manager assessment criteria on performance leading to delivery of required results.
• Ensure availability of delegation of authorities matrix in order to have sufficient delegations as per company policy.

• Anticipate problems and make necessary proactive steps to prevent them.
• Take necessary and proper timely decisions.
• Make a tangible difference to the area of operation and exceed business expectations.
• Transform corporate goals into business plans.
• Plan, follow up, and execute plans, whether annual or development plans.
• Monitor plan performance and initiate action to strengthen results and take corrective action accordingly.
• Monitor and control budgets and expenses to achieve optimum cost efficiency.
• Develop, coordinate well-defined written systems, policies, procedures, and seek automation opportunities.

Qualifications & Experience

• High School Degree in Automotive Engineering and Technology.
• 15+ years of work experience.
