Field Engineer

Role Overview

Field Engineer at McDermott, based in field and offshore locations. The role applies conceptual knowledge of field experience with moderate guidance from colleagues and leadership to solve straightforward field and yard-related issues using the company's standard procedures and processes.

Role Purpose

Solve a range of field and yard-related issues by analyzing possible solutions using technical experience, judgment, and precedents. Understand key business drivers and apply acquired knowledge to support offshore installation execution and project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance

• Ensure all work is carried out safely in compliance with Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment policies and procedures.
• Actively participate in project Constructability sessions, Readiness reviews, Hazard Identification studies, and Job Safety Analysis as applicable.
• Communicate to implement recommendations from safety and readiness activities.

Installation Planning & Procedures

• Develop vessel layout and barge loadout plans for transportation of materials, equipment, and structures to offshore facilities to facilitate safe and timely installation.
• Prepare offshore installation procedures according to Company Procedures and Processes, including methods, techniques, practices, sequences, installation aids, temporary works, and consumables required.
• Recommend changes in technical details and drawings where these may result in safe operations and clarity on installation procedures.
• Issue Loadout Lists applicable to the work based on recommended practice.
• Develop checklists and inspect loadouts according to Company Procedures.

Materials & Logistics

• Prepare material lists covering construction materials and project consumables.
• Liaise with the project coordinator for procurement.
• Coordinate with the logistics team for inputs on materials, structures, and equipment loaded for cargo movements by ship, barge, trucks, or other means.
• Coordinate with Production Engineers and verify loadouts of fabricated items for the project.
• Witness and inspect pre-rigging, loadouts, and sea fastening.
• Acknowledge receipt of fabricated structures, line pipes, and other materials to be installed offshore.

Cross-functional Coordination

• Coordinate with Marine, E&M, Welding, Quality, HSES, Survey & ROV, Diving Departments, and Subcontractors to ensure necessary equipment and personnel are available and ready for project deployment.
• Liaise with customer representatives and subcontractor representatives at offshore sites and with the Operations Engineer.

Documentation & Reporting

• Review and retain project drawings and documents.
• Report discrepancies, errors, and omissions concerning information required to perform work.
• Conduct work scope presentations to offshore key personnel explaining planning and execution, contractual and technical aspects.
• Issue field sketches, data sheets, and checklists as required for information purposes to offshore personnel.
• Prepare Post Job Completion Reports according to Company Procedures.
• Prepare and collate as-built documentation and records as required by contract requirements and approved project scope.

Monitoring & Problem Resolution

• Ensure work is within the capabilities of proposed equipment.
• Monitor progress of work and site conditions.
• Advise the Operations Engineer of any developments that may result in changes to project schedule and execution sequence.
• Participate in resolution of technical problems arising during offshore installation.
• Assist in formulation of corrective action requirements.

Deployment & Travel

• Maintain readiness to travel offshore for job execution, including willingness to be at onshore sites as required.
• Travel to different job sites and work in various environmental conditions as required.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
• 3–5 years of offshore installation experience.
• Adequate knowledge of design and offshore project execution.

Skills & Competencies

• Knowledge in AutoCAD or similar tools.
• Basic knowledge in Microsoft tools such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• 3D software experience.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Additional Information

• Willingness to travel to different job sites and work in various environmental conditions as required.
