Field Engineer

Role Overview

Field Engineer at McDermott. Applies conceptual and field knowledge to solve straightforward field and yard-related issues using company standard procedures, technical experience, judgment, and precedents, with moderate guidance from colleagues and leadership.

Role Purpose

Ensure safe, compliant offshore installation execution by developing installation procedures, coordinating across departments and subcontractors, managing vessel and barge loadout plans, inspecting work quality, and resolving technical problems in the field.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance

• Ensure all work is carried out safely in compliance with Quality, Health, Safety, & Environment policies and procedures.
• Actively participate in Constructability sessions, Readiness reviews, Hazard Identification studies, or Job Safety Analysis and communicate recommendations for implementation.
• Recommend changes to technical details and drawings where these may result in safe operations and clarity in installation procedures.

Installation Planning & Procedures

• Prepare offshore installation procedures per company procedures and processes, outlining methods, techniques, practices, sequences, installation aids, temporary works, and consumables required.
• Develop vessel layout and barge loadout plans for safe and timely transportation of materials, equipment, and structures offshore.
• Prepare material lists covering construction materials and project consumables and liaise with project coordinator for procurement.
• Issue Loadout Lists applicable to the work based on recommended practice.
• Ensure work is within the capabilities of proposed equipment.

Documentation & Quality Review

• Review and retain project drawings and documents and report discrepancies, errors, and omissions concerning information required to perform work.
• Prepare Post Job completion Reports per company procedures.
• Prepare and collate as-built documentation and records as required by contract requirements and approved project scope.

Inspection & Verification

• Witness and inspect pre-rigging, loadouts, and sea fastening and acknowledge receipt of fabricated structures, line pipes, and other materials to be installed offshore.
• Develop checklists and inspect loadouts per company procedures.
• Coordinate with Production Engineers and verify loadouts of fabricated items.

Coordination & Stakeholder Management

• Coordinate with Marine, E&M, Welding, Quality, HSES, Survey & ROV, Diving Departments, and Subcontractors to ensure necessary equipment and personnel are available and ready for project deployment.
• Coordinate with the logistics team for inputs on materials, structures, and equipment loaded for cargo movements via ship, barge, truck, or other transport.
• Liaise with customer representatives and subcontractor representatives at offshore sites and with Operations Engineer.
• Conduct work scope presentations to offshore key personnel explaining planning and execution of work, including contractual and technical aspects, and issue field sketches, data sheets, and checklists as required.

Monitoring & Problem Resolution

• Monitor progress of work and site conditions and advise Operations Engineer of developments that may result in changes to project, schedule, or execution sequence.
• Participate in resolution of technical problems arising during offshore installation and assist in formulating corrective action requirements.

Offshore Readiness

• Maintain readiness to travel offshore for job execution, including willingness to be at onshore sites as required.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
• 3–5 years of offshore installation experience.
• Adequate knowledge of design and offshore project execution.

Skills & Competencies

• Knowledge of AutoCAD or similar tools.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• 3D software experience.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Additional Information

• Willingness to travel to different job sites and work in various environmental conditions as required.
