Field Electrician (Catwalk & Bucking Unit)

Role Overview

Field Electrician (Catwalk & Bucking Unit) at Nabors. This role is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and control systems associated with catwalks and bucking units used in tubular handling and make-up operations.

Role Purpose

Ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all electrical components, including power distribution systems, control panels, PLCs, HMIs, and automation systems. The Electrician plays a critical role in minimizing Non-Productive Time (NPT) by proactively identifying issues, performing preventive maintenance, and responding effectively to equipment failures in field operations.

Key Responsibilities

Preventive & Predictive Maintenance

• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on catwalks and bucking units to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
• Conduct routine equipment inspections and functional testing to identify potential failures before they occur.
• Maintain a preventative maintenance schedule for all electrical equipment.
• Foresee potential equipment malfunctions or failures and perform required repairs, adjustments, or modifications to resolve the problem.

PLC & Automation Systems

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair faults in PLC systems, including input/output modules, communication networks, and control logic.
• Maintain and troubleshoot Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems, including resolving system freezes, restarts, and communication failures.
• Diagnose and repair Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) used in motors controlling conveyors, rollers, and bucking unit rotation systems.

Electrical Equipment Maintenance & Repair

• Perform electrical maintenance on motors, sensors, encoders, limit switches, solenoid valves, relays, and control panels.
• Repair electrical equipment such as panel lighting, circuit breakers, junction boxes, voltage regulators, and reverse current relays.
• Repair or replace defective or worn electrical parts.
• Perform fault finding on power distribution systems, including breakers, contactors, transformers, and junction boxes.
• Troubleshoot miscellaneous electrical equipment.

Safety Systems & Compliance

• Inspect, test, and maintain electrical safety systems, including emergency stops (E-stops), interlocks, alarms, and protective devices.
• Ensure compliance with Lock Out / Tag Out (LOTO) procedures and Permit to Work systems during all maintenance activities.
• Comply with all HSE policies and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment and zero harm to personnel and equipment.

Documentation & Technical Analysis

• Read, interpret, and update electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, and control schematics.
• Read and analyze electrical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals.
• Support root cause analysis (RCA) investigations for major equipment failures and implement corrective actions.

Installation & Modifications

• Carry out cable termination, wiring, and panel modifications as required during maintenance or upgrades.
• Assist in rig-up, commissioning, rig-down, and mobilization/demobilization of catwalk and bucking unit equipment.

Torque-Turn Systems

• Support maintenance and troubleshooting of torque-turn systems, ensuring accurate make-up and break-out operations.

Materials & Coordination

• Ensure availability of critical electrical spare parts and initiate material requests when required.
• Coordinate with Maintenance Manager on the maintenance, repair, and refurbishment of equipment.

Emergency Response & Support

• Respond to emergency breakdowns promptly and efficiently to minimize downtime and operational disruption.
• Provide technical support and guidance to junior personnel when required.
• Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Line Manager in line with business requirements.

Continuous Improvement & Standards

• Maintain high standards of housekeeping and equipment condition at all times.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment performance, reliability, and safety.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Engineering.
• At least 6 years of work experience in maintaining electrical equipment.
• Must possess and maintain certifications and licenses necessary as required by the appropriate regulatory authorities.
• Must be able to obtain appropriate offshore or onshore certifications.
• Must possess mathematical skills required for certification as an Electrician.

Skills & Competencies

• Proficient knowledge of diagnostic equipment.
• Knowledgeable and proficient in basic rigger's role to ensure safe lifting operations are performed.
• Knowledgeable of electrical systems and skilled at working with hand and power tools.
