EMT Basic

Role Overview

EMT Basic position with V2X, physically located in Kuwait in support of WEXMAC.

Role Purpose

Perform specialized duty work functions preparing for and responding to fire and medical emergency calls while providing general support within the Fire Department.

Key Responsibilities

Emergency Response

• Maintain readiness for emergency call response and respond to fire, medical, and related emergency calls when dispatched.
• Respond to emergency calls, assess the situation, obtain a basic medical history and physical examination of the patient, and provide emergency care at the scene and during transit to the hospital.
• Take proper action in response to emergency situations.
• Use necessary medical equipment to assess the patient and ascertain the extent of their injuries or illness.

Communication & Coordination

• Communicate with the paramedic and the Medical Officer about the patient's condition, status, and arrival time.

Education & Prevention

• Educate staff and public on fire safety and prevention.
• Perform Fire Department activities.

Professional Practice

• Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
• Remain familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within EMS operations.
• Perform a variety of tasks as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

• Nationally Registered as an EMT-Basic.
• Minimum of two years of experience in an emergency health care setting.
• Minimum of two years of experience working on an emergency response ambulance.
• Extensive Fire Fighting and Emergency Service Experience.
• Bachelor's Degree or above is an attribute.
• Two years related experience may be substituted for one year of education if degree is required.

Skills & Competencies

• Read, write, and speak English fluently.
• Excellent communicative skills, both written and verbal.
• Computer skills and copter/scanning experience.
• Ability to learn newly admitted equipment into the EMS inventory.
• Seasoned instructor in the EMS career field preferred.

Additional Information

Physical Requirements

• Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently.
• Lift a minimum of 100 pounds.
• Physically able to operate a variety of machines, tools, and equipment including a motor vehicle, computer, stretchers, litters, and medical equipment.
• Physically able to carry objects, patients, or materials.
• Perform lifting, pulling, and dragging.
• Physical demand requirements are at levels of very heavy work.

Work Schedule

• Work shifts consisting of days, swings, and midnight shifts.
