Role Overview
Wood PLC is seeking an ED III Civil/Structural Designer to join its Al-Khobar office. The role involves preparing engineering drawings, creating designs, and delivering technical deliverables across commercial, industrial, and civil sector structures.

Role Purpose
The ED III Civil/Structural Designer prepares and develops comprehensive engineering drawings, designs, and technical documentation for complex civil and structural projects. The role requires translating engineering specifications and rough sketches into detailed, code-compliant deliverables while ensuring quality, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness across all design activities.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Drafting
- Prepare engineering drawings in the discipline area from rough sketches and general engineering information according to established standards and procedures.
- Create designs and sketch out detailed plans for commercial, industrial, civil sector structures and plant and/or manufactured products and systems.
- Prepare mechanical or digital drawings, diagrams, blueprints and/or models using computer-aided drafting (CAD) and/or computer-aided drafting and design (CADD) software.
- Develop working drawings within company and industry standards and codes from equipment specifications and detailed drawings.
- Create drawings involving plans, layouts, calculations and bills of material.
- Design and make detail drawings from rough sketches involving intricate calculations and application of fundamental engineering principles.
- Perform layouts, design and checking work from basic data supplied.
Technical Execution & Analysis
- Plan and carry out technical assignments of substantial variety and complexity involving a variety of procedures and techniques.
- Undertake technical assignments that are a significant part of an ongoing engineering program.
- Work on assignments involving a variety of design procedures and techniques.
- Record observations, perform calculations and prepare reports on assignments.
- Design and construct models, prototypes, processes or equipment; compile and evaluate data.
- Identify cost-effective solutions to design problems.
- Prepare estimates of time, quantities, materials and labour required for activities related to testing, installation, manufacture, design or construction.
- Generate bill of materials from finished designs.
Standards, Quality & Coordination
- Establish project drafting standards and monitor their conformance.
- Ensure quality in design and technical accuracy in the preparation of drawings and material quantities.
- Review others' work at more senior levels.
- Assist in the preparation of bid evaluations.
- Make recommendations and prepare reports on technical findings.
Project Management & Liaison
- Plan assigned work effectively and obtain/provide information liaising with the project team and line manager to control man-hours and achieve targets.
- Carry out site visits and surveys and provide inputs to site visit reports.
- Act as coordinator on small projects at more experienced levels.
- Prepare specifications for complex equipment and processes at more experienced levels.
Qualifications & Experience
- Educational degree in Civil/Structural engineering discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Civil/Structural engineering design.
Skills & Competencies
- Full understanding of the materials and methods normally used in civil/structural discipline.
- Understanding of related engineering principles and practices.
- Capable of interpreting key documents including engineering standards, piping material specifications, P&IDs and Line Lists.
- Competent user of CAD/D software.
- Technically oriented and mechanically inclined.
- Strong mathematics aptitude and ability to translate intangible concepts into hands-on project plans.
- Enjoys applying complex theoretical principles to practical projects.
- Self-motivated and committed to enhancing team performance.
- Prepared to take on new tasks and learn new technical subjects and skills.
- Continuously develops own knowledge and abilities.
