Role Overview

Customer Solution Engineer - Major Projects at KONE. This role is part of the early engagement team, providing technical expertise to transform customer needs into optimal KONE solutions for non-standard tendering cases.

Role Purpose

Deliver comprehensive technical solutions by understanding customer requirements, defining specifications and costs, coordinating across internal teams and supply functions, and ensuring all product, planning, and delivery aspects align with customer needs and KONE standards.

Key Responsibilities

Collaboration with Sales

• Identify optimal technical solutions to meet customer needs for non-standard cases.
• Ensure clarity on solution scope, including KONE and possible third-party offerings.
• Select the correct product platform for each offering.
• Propose solutions across all KONE business lines: new services, escalators, elevators, doors, and others.

Solution Planning – Costing

• Own correct APF solution costs.
• Involve CSE Engineer and system to understand integration costs.
• Coordinate with Supply Line, installation, and project management to understand material costs.

Solution Planning – Specifications

• Coordinate specification creation.
• Perform initial and revised non-standard energy calculations.
• Perform traffic analyses.
• Evaluate technical feasibility.

Solution Planning – Availability and Lead Times

• Coordinate solution lead times from Supply Line and local sourcing.

Solution Planning – Installability

• Ensure the proposed solution can be installed.
• Incorporate cost and work effort impact of installation into solution costing, especially for non-standard installation methods.

Solution Planning – Maintainability

• Ensure the proposed solution fulfills customer product lifecycle needs.
• Identify possible deviations from standard maintenance methods and resolve.

Solution Planning – Compliance

• Ensure the proposed solution fulfills local codes, regulations, and safety requirements.
• Verify alignment with environmental regulations.
• Confirm compliance with KONE engineering policy.

KONE Delivery Process

• Own creation of full shop layout drawings or installation layouts.
• Own corporate material order engineering.
• Coordinate and analyse change requirements (variation orders and add works); provide holistic proposals for new solution designs.
• Coordinate work of all involved CSE Engineers and Specialists.
• Propose change order sales opportunities to Project Managers.
• Understand variance between site design and site reality.
• Provide solution-related information to Project Managers, Installation Supervisors, and Maintenance Supervisors.
• Perform technical submittal documentation.
• Own material sample ordering.
• Manage SAP Milestone management accurately.
• Identify Request for Information (RFI) whenever applicable.
• Coordinate with Sourcing for approval of third-party supplier ordering and samples.
• Participate in customer meetings when technical solution-related topics require discussion.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum Bachelor's degree in Engineering or another relevant field, or several years' experience in elevator business field operations.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience in elevator business field operations.
• Excellent skills in understanding and translating customer needs and requirements into KONE technical specifications.
• Understanding of new construction and building modernization processes in the industry and at KONE.
