Cost Control Engineer

Role Overview

Cost Control Engineer at MIRA Construction in Dubai. The role involves hands-on responsibility for monitoring project budgets, expenditures, commitments, variations, forecasting, and overall cost performance throughout the construction project lifecycle.

Role Purpose

Monitor and control project costs from commencement through completion, maintain accurate cost reporting and forecasting, identify variances and cost overruns, and provide financial analysis to support project management decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Budget and Cost Planning

• Prepare and maintain project budgets, cost plans, forecasts, and cost reports.
• Maintain project cost codes and ensure accurate allocation of project costs.
• Prepare and maintain Estimate at Completion (EAC) and cost-to-complete forecasts.
• Assist in project cash-flow forecasting and expenditure planning.

Cost Monitoring and Control

• Monitor and control project costs from project commencement through completion.
• Track actual project expenditure against approved budgets and identify variances.
• Monitor commitments, purchase orders, subcontractor costs, material costs, and site expenditures.
• Monitor accruals, invoices, commitments, and actual costs.
• Support project teams in maintaining cost efficiency and minimizing unnecessary expenditure.

Reporting and Analysis

• Prepare monthly cost-control reports and provide analysis to project management.
• Monitor project progress against budget and forecast the expected final cost.
• Analyze cost trends and provide management with accurate financial information for decision-making.
• Analyze cost variances and identify potential project cost overruns.

Variations and Financial Impact

• Monitor and assess the financial impact of project variations, claims, and change orders.
• Identify potential cost overruns and provide recommendations for corrective action.

Coordination and Documentation

• Coordinate with Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors, Procurement, Finance, and Site Engineers regarding project costs.
• Review subcontractor and supplier commitments and ensure they are accurately reflected in project cost reports.
• Ensure proper documentation and reporting of project costs in accordance with company procedures.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related engineering or construction discipline.
• Proven experience as a Cost Control Engineer or Project Cost Control Engineer within the construction industry.
• Previous experience working directly for a construction company is mandatory.
• UAE construction experience is highly preferred.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong understanding of construction project cost control and project financial management.
• Hands-on experience with project budgets, cost forecasting, commitments, variations, and cost reporting.
• Experience with EAC, ETC, actual vs. budget analysis, accruals, and cost-to-complete forecasting.
• Strong knowledge of construction project expenditures, subcontractor costs, procurement, and material costs.
• Strong MS Excel skills and experience with relevant ERP, project management, or cost-control software.
• Good understanding of construction contracts, BOQs, variations, subcontractor agreements, and project documentation.
• Strong analytical, numerical, and reporting skills.
• Excellent coordination and communication skills.
• Ability to work closely with project and site teams.

Additional Information

• Must be willing to work on-site in Dubai.
• Construction company experience is mandatory; candidates with experience limited to general accounting, finance, or non-construction cost control will not be considered.
