Corporate FX Sales Unit Head - Director Middle East
Citi
Job description
Role Overview
Corporate FX Sales Unit Head - Director Middle East at Citi, based in Dubai. This is a senior leadership role combining direct client coverage with management of a geographically dispersed sales team across multiple Middle East countries.
Company Overview
Citi's Corporate FX Sales business is a market-leading franchise serving multinational corporations, top-tier local companies, and mid-market businesses. The role requires deep cross-franchise partnership across Markets, Banking, and Services within a commercially high-growth region marked by geopolitical and regulatory complexity.
Role Purpose
Own full commercial and supervisory accountability for an assigned country and client portfolio, delivering consistent above-plan revenue growth while leading an FX sales team across multiple Middle East markets. The role operates simultaneously at the level of individual client relationships, country-level strategy, and regional franchise development.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Leadership & Revenue Ownership
- Own the full-year revenue target for the assigned country and client portfolio, with accountability for delivering consistent above-plan growth.
- Drive revenue growth across flow FX, FX Options (FXO), structured solutions, and episodic transactions.
- Lead personal coverage of the region's most strategically significant corporate relationships, including TTLC, Public Sector, and multinational clients, ensuring Citi is positioned as a primary strategic partner rather than a transactional provider.
- Originate and execute complex, high-value transactions, including M&A-linked FX, structured hedging programs, and multi-product advisory mandates, in collaboration with Trading, Services, and Banking.
- Defend and grow Citi's Coalition ranking in the assigned markets through disciplined wallet share management, VOC analysis, and targeted client investment.
- Maintain a returns focus and capital and expense discipline.
Strategy & Franchise Development
- Define and execute a coherent commercial strategy for the assigned region, balancing short-term revenue delivery with long-term franchise investment across each market.
- Identify and pursue new product, client segment, and geographic opportunities, including product expansion, new currency capabilities, emerging financing themes, digital infrastructure investment, and offshore liquidity solutions.
- Lead the business case development and internal approvals process for new product or market initiatives, navigating regulatory, legal, compliance, and operational stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions.
- Represent the region's commercial interests in broader regional and global forums, contributing to the overall UKEMEA Corporate FX Sales strategy.
Cross-Franchise Collaboration
- Build and sustain active, results-oriented partnerships with Corporate Banking, Services, G10 Trading, and e-FX teams across all assigned countries, driving an integrated multi-product pipeline and "One Citi" client dialogue.
- Organize and lead franchise-wide client engagement events, including senior roundtables, treasury forums, and thematic roadshows, that showcase Citi's integrated Markets, Banking, and Services capabilities.
- Partner with country Citi Client Officers (CCOs), Heads of Markets, and Regional Heads to ensure coherent regional coverage and aligned strategic priorities.
- Contribute actively to firm-wide initiatives beyond direct remit, including working groups, innovation programs, and cross-Markets think tanks, as a visible franchise ambassador.
People Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, develop, and inspire a team of FX Sales professionals across multiple markets, each operating in distinct cultural, regulatory, and competitive environments.
- Set clear performance standards, foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, and invest in the career development of both direct and indirect reports.
- Extend mentoring and coaching to colleagues beyond the immediate team, contributing to talent development across the broader Markets organization.
- Champion innovation within the team, including digitalization, automation, and AI-enabled tools, to enhance client experience, operational efficiency, and competitive differentiation.
Risk, Control & Supervisory Accountability
- Serve as a designated Global Markets Supervisor, with formal accountability for adherence to Global Markets procedures across all assigned markets.
- Foster a proactive risk and control culture within the team through regular country visits, structured supervisory oversight, and senior-led compliance and conduct sessions.
- Balance commercial ambition with Citi's risk appetite, exercising sound judgment in complex regulatory environments and escalating appropriately where required.
- Engage constructively with compliance, legal, and regulatory stakeholders across all assigned markets, ensuring the business always operates within established frameworks.
Qualifications & Experience
- Significant experience, typically 10β15 years, in Corporate FX Sales or a closely related Markets discipline, with a demonstrable track record of senior client coverage and revenue delivery at scale.
- Proven track record of leading commercial teams across multiple markets or geographies, preferably including emerging market or hub-managed country environments.
- Demonstrated ability to originate, structure, and execute complex FX and multi-product transactions, including FXO, structured hedging, and episodic or M&A-linked deals.
- Experience managing a business through geopolitically and regulatory complex environments, with evidence of sound judgment and resilience under pressure.
- Track record of cross-franchise collaboration, including joint origination with Banking, TTS/Services, and Trading, and of building durable, integrated client relationships.
- Degree-level education required; advanced degree (MSc, MBA) in Finance, Economics, or a related discipline preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Exceptional commercial acumen and client relationship skills, with the ability to engage at C-suite and senior treasury level with the most sophisticated corporate clients.
- Strategic thinking: ability to define a coherent regional strategy, identify emerging opportunities, and build the internal case for new initiatives.
- Strong leadership and people management capabilities, including the ability to motivate and develop a team across diverse cultural contexts.
- High standard of risk awareness and supervisory discipline, with experience operating as a first-line risk manager in a regulated Markets environment.
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, across internal and external audiences, including senior management, clients, and regulators.
- Multilingual capability preferred, given the geographic scope of the role.
- Familiarity with digital FX platforms, e-FX execution, and automation tools; openness to integrating AI and technology-driven solutions into client and operational workflows.
