Role Purpose
The Core Sport Leader delivers fitness instruction and officiates intramural and special sporting events. You will teach aerobics, strength training, and circuit training; coordinate monthly sports competitions; and create customized fitness programs for members to support their personal health goals and documented fitness incentive initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Fitness Instruction
- Teach aerobics classes including step-aerobics, weight/strength, cardiovascular and circuit training.
- Instruct members in strength training principles, training procedures, and exercise techniques.
- Teach members the proper and preferred use of all strength training equipment.
- Demonstrate training techniques and movements.
- Provide tips and advice on improving form and achieving fitness goals.
- Inform members of new information regarding strength training, safety and effectiveness.
Program Development
- Assist with creation of the fitness program and calendar.
- Listen to a client's personal fitness goals.
- Create customized training programs for clients.
Event Coordination and Officiating
- Officiate all intramural sporting events and special events.
- Assist with coordination of between eight (8) and ten (10) special sports events each month, such as weekly tournaments for sports other than the current league sport and competitions including weightlifting, 5k and 10k fun runs.
- Assist with creating schedules that follow the AF Sports calendar found in the AF Services Activity website to the maximum extent possible as mission dictates and rotation schedules allow.
Fitness Programs and Member Support
- Support documented fitness incentive programs, such as 200-mile run, Fit to Fight, Biggest Loser, Pounders, and others.
Equipment and Facility Management
- Ensure safe and effective use of training equipment.
- Maintain training equipment hygiene and safety.
Qualifications & Experience
- High school diploma or GED.
- Core Sport Leader certification in accordance with AFI 34-266 and/or other applicable Air Force Fitness guidance and policies.
- Certified in Aerobics and Spin classes (preferred).
- Knowledgeable in officiating recreational sports inclusive of but not limited to volleyball, softball, flag football, soccer, and basketball. If not knowledgeable in all listed sports, must be willing to learn and become comfortable with all listed.
- American Red Cross CPR Certificate.
- American Red Cross Standard First Aid certificate or local equivalent certifications as approved by the ACO.
- Automated External Defibrillator Certification.
- Strong working knowledge of fitness training and exercises.
Skills & Competencies
- Excellent social, verbal and written communication skills.
- Physical ability to perform exercises for long periods of time.
Additional Information
- Valid U.S. Driver's License required.
- Valid U.S. Passport preferred.
- Must be able to meet all current USCENTCOM Deployment Policy Requirements, as outlined in the USCENTCOM APR 23 MOD SEVENTEEN TO USCENTCOM INDIVIDUAL AND INDIVIDUAL-UNIT DEPLOYMENT POLICY.
- Able to obtain and maintain a valid Residency Visa for the United Arab Emirates.
- Must be able to work in extreme environmental conditions including dust and high temperatures.
- Must be able to endure long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions.
- Must have and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.
