Role Overview

Consultant Physician Endocrinology at SEHA. The role leads and supervises the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based endocrinology care, ensuring effective and efficient diagnosis, management, and treatment of all patients under the post holder's care.

Role Purpose

The Consultant Physician is expected to be an example of clinical excellence within endocrinology and to provide leadership and training for junior medical staff. The role encompasses clinical delivery, governance, quality improvement, education, and administrative responsibilities across inpatient, outpatient, and on-call settings.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Delivery

• Diagnose and treat patients according to established standards of best practice for endocrinology.
• Oversee the clinical activities of junior medical staff and assume responsibility for the care they provide.
• Lead ward rounds and reassess both inpatients and outpatients on a regular basis in line with established best practice.
• Ensure preparation of patients for all procedures, including obtaining informed consent.
• Accept clinically appropriate referrals from the Emergency Department, primary care, other departments, specialty clinics, walk-in patients, and patients referred from other hospitals.
• Regularly review results of all investigations and modify treatment as required.
• Liaise with other medical specialties and support services for additional input as required.
• Actively participate in multidisciplinary meetings to help plan effective, safe, and holistic care for individual patients.
• Communicate clinical information to patients and the patient's family and friends (with patient consent) in a timely manner.
• Maintain a good working relationship with members of staff and promote collaboration and a team-based approach to patient care.
• Perform other clinical responsibilities as assigned.

Compliance & Standards

• Comply with all established hospital policies regarding admissions, consultations, daily patient care, surgical procedures, discharge protocols, outpatient and follow-up practices.
• Practice appropriate utilization of the organization's resources.
• Accurately document all relevant clinical information in a clear and timely fashion in accordance with established procedures.

On-Call & Coverage

• Participate in and ensure the provision of out-of-hours (on-call) coverage on a rotational basis, including evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays as required.

Management & Administration

• Support, implement, and follow all hospital, departmental, and divisional initiatives, policies, and procedures.
• Help lead and implement the organization's performance management system, including peer review and the productivity and utilization review processes.
• Participate in the organization's performance management system, including peer review and the productivity and utilization review processes.
• Assist with scheduling and support the Division Chief in ensuring that adequate medical coverage is provided within the Division at all times.
• Attend divisional meetings as required.
• Assist the Division Chief in the recruitment of new medical staff when appropriate.
• Assume other administrative or clinical duties as requested by the Division Chief.

Quality & Safety

• Help lead quality improvement within the Department.
• Support a culture of regular audit and encourage the use of audit results for improving clinical practice.
• Support the reporting, investigation, and response to untoward incidents.

Education & Development

• Promote and assist in the instruction, guidance, and supervision of junior medical staff.
• Facilitate the provision of essential training relevant to clinical staff in endocrinology.
• Show commitment to Continued Medical Education (CME).
• Foster a culture of learning, development, and continuous improvement across the Department.
• Promote and participate in clinical research and publication.
• Keep abreast of current relevant literature and the latest trends and technologies in the industry.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

• Tier 1: Not less than 2 years of relevant experience as a consultant or equivalent post board certification.
• Tier 2: Not less than 8 years of full-time employment as a Consultant or equivalent post board certification (includes years in fellowship training) in an internationally accredited institute.

UAE Nationals — Fellowship Training Credit

• Each year of clinical fellowship is counted as two years of clinical experience.
• Clinical fellowship training following primary specialty board may substitute for experience.
• Only applicable to clinical subspecialty fellowship in the following countries: Australia, New Zealand, Canada, UK, USA, or HAAD-accredited fellowship programs.
