Consultant Occupational Medicine

Role Overview

Consultant Occupational Medicine at SEHA Hospitals. The role is based in Abu Dhabi.

Role Purpose

To provide comprehensive occupational medicine services, conducting patient assessments, developing treatment plans, prescribing care, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, high-quality clinical outcomes while adhering to regulatory standards and supporting professional development.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Assessment and Treatment

• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and take detailed medical histories.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests.
• Formulate personalized treatment plans for injuries, illnesses, and disorders within the specialty.
• Prescribe and administer appropriate medication, therapy, and specialized medical care.
• Perform necessary procedures and surgeries related to the specialty.

Collaboration and Coordination

• Liaise and consult with other medical specialists, departments, and support services to ensure holistic and integrated patient care.

Documentation and Compliance

• Accurately document all relevant clinical information in a clear and timely fashion in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
• Adhere to all hospital departmental and divisional policies, procedures, and Department of Health regulations, including occupational health and safety guidelines and infection control protocols.

Quality and Safety

• Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and research activities to enhance patient safety and care standards.

Teaching and Communication

• Provide instruction, guidance, and supervision to junior medical staff, residents, and students.
• Communicate clinical information to patients and their families in a timely and compassionate manner, obtaining informed consent for procedures as required.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

• MBBS or equivalent degree from a recognized medical school.

Post-Graduate Training

• Completion of a structured clinical residency or fellowship program in the relevant specialization.

Experience

• Minimum of 2–3 years of clinical experience post-specialization, depending on Department of Health tier classification qualifications and specific hospital requirements.

Licensing and Certifications

• Valid Department of Health Abu Dhabi license or an eligibility letter to practice in Abu Dhabi (highly preferred).
• Current, valid license from the country of last or current practice.
• Current Certificate of Good Standing from the relevant licensing authority.
• Successful completion of the Department of Health licensing exam (may involve an oral assessment depending on the specialty).

• Problem-solving skills.
• Fluency in English and Arabic (required).
• Competence in other languages is a distinct asset.
• Commitment to continuous medical education and continuing professional development.
