Complex Chief Steward

Role Overview

Complex Chief Steward at Marriott. This role manages daily kitchen utility operations and supervises non-cooking kitchen staff in a hotel or food service environment.

Role Purpose

Manage kitchen utility operations, supervise support staff, and maintain standards for dish room, cleaning, banquet support, and food running while supporting guest satisfaction and operational budget goals.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Supervision

• Manage daily kitchen utility operations and staff activities.
• Supervise kitchen employees not actively engaged in cooking, including dishwashers and kitchen helpers.
• Oversee dish room operations, night cleaning, back dock cleaning and maintenance, banquet plating, and food running.

Staff Management

• Assist management in hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, counseling, disciplining, and motivating and coaching employees.
• Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others.
• Support team to reach common goals.

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all company, safety, and security policies and procedures.
• Report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to manager.
• Complete safety training and certifications.

Guest Service & Standards

• Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to company standards.
• Anticipate and address guests' service needs.
• Ensure adherence to quality expectations and standards.

General Duties

• Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional.
• Maintain confidentiality of proprietary information.
• Protect company assets.
• Speak with others using clear and professional language.
• Strive to continually improve guest and employee satisfaction while maintaining the operating budget.
• Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by Supervisors.

Qualifications & Experience

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
• At least 2 years of related work experience.
• At least 1 year of supervisory experience.

Skills & Competencies

• Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance.
• Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time.
• Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
• Move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces.
