Role Overview

Clinic Support Assistant at NMC Healthcare. The role provides administrative and clinical support to healthcare professionals in a healthcare setting, assisting with patient care under the direction and supervision of a licensed healthcare professional, managing medical records, and ensuring clinical areas are prepared for patient treatments.

Role Purpose

Clinical Support Assistants play a crucial role by working alongside nurses, doctors, and other staff to maintain the smooth and safe patient journey through preparation of clinical areas, provision of non-interventional assistance during examinations and treatments, management of patient records, and support with basic patient care tasks when trained and competent.

Key Responsibilities

Patient and Clinical Area Preparation

  • Prepare and organize clinical areas, including waiting areas, for patient presence, consultations, and procedures.
  • Provide non-interventional assistance to licensed healthcare professionals during medical examinations and treatments, including chaperoning, consumable preparation, and room turnaround.
  • Support in the escort of patients within and between departments.

Patient Care Support

  • When trained and competent, perform basic patient care tasks such as helping with mobility, at the instruction and supervision of the licensed healthcare professional.
  • Provide emotional support and clear communication to patients and families when required and following the instruction of the healthcare professional.

Medical Equipment and Sterilization

  • When trained and competent, ensure medical equipment is sterilized and cleaned and ready for use according to NMC Policy.

Records and Administration

  • Manage patient records, updating information and ensuring confidentiality and data protection.
  • Schedule patient appointments and handle admissions and discharges, inclusive of follow-up discharge phone calls.

Inventory and Supply Management

  • Monitor inventory of medical supplies and restock as needed.
  • Transport patient specimens in accordance with NMC Policy.

Safety, Compliance, and Quality

  • Adhere to all safety, health, and infection control procedures.
  • Maintain awareness of and comply with NMC Policies and Procedures.
  • Strictly adhere to the regulatory Scope of Practice.
  • Escalate and raise concerns using the incident reporting system.
  • Speak up if something is not right.
  • Participate in all activities related to DOH/DHA/MOH/MOHAP and NMC Quality Improvement when required.
  • Uphold the regulatory and accreditation standards that apply to their daily working practice.

Infection Prevention and Control

  • Read and implement the NMC IPC Policy and Strategy to maintain the highest possible standards of cleanliness, reducing the risk of infection in patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Maintain the strictest hand hygiene compliance encompassing the five moments of hand hygiene, bare below the elbows, and environmental care, at all times.

Occupational Safety and Health Management

  • Comply with OSHMS instructions, policies, and safe working procedures.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.
  • Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
  • Not willfully or recklessly endanger anyone's health and safety.
  • Assist with the preparation of risk assessments.
  • Report OSH hazards, incidents, near misses, and issues.
  • Reduce, reuse, and recycle waste as much as possible.
  • Attend all OSH trainings, awareness programs, and mock drills.
  • Participate in OSHMS audits and inspections to ensure standards are maintained.

Qualifications & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Skills & Competencies

  • Knowledge of basic clinical procedures and healthcare practices.
  • Ability to use medical equipment and understand safety protocols.
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with patients, families, and healthcare staff.
  • Organizational skills for managing records and scheduling appointments.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to follow clinical instructions accurately.
  • Basic IT skills for handling medical software and patient databases.
  • Physical stamina for assisting with patient care and clinical tasks.
