Role Purpose

The Casualty Underwriter plays a key role in AIG's transformation by effectively and profitably underwriting, marketing, selling and promoting all liabilities group products. The role is responsible for profitable underwriting of new business production and renewal retention of casualty products for an assigned territory developed through brokers, direct clients, and business development managers.

Key Responsibilities

Underwriting & Decision-Making

  • Underwrite new and renewal business to promote premium growth within underwriting authority.
  • Provide sound underwriting decisions, exhibit flexibility, and price risks to achieve established profit goals.
  • Work independently to evaluate and analyze submissions, apply underwriting guidelines and business practices, and make underwriting decisions.
  • Maintain the Casualty Underwriting Guidelines that adhere to all corporate policies and support the strategy and profit goals of the company.
  • Adhere to underwriting authority and underwriting guidelines referenced in the AIG Casualty Intranet site.
  • Ensure that all underwriting decisions are documented in the underwriting file.

Production & Account Management

  • Achieve overall production goals in collaboration with the Underwriting Manager.
  • Maintain broker and client relationships.
  • Generate new business from existing producers and up-sell current accounts.
  • Identify poor performing accounts.
  • Provide feedback on renewal loss ratios that exceed permissible.

Compliance & Systems

  • Ensure that all casualty pricing tools are being used correctly.
  • Ensure that all casualty quotes, binders and policies are issued in accordance with regulatory and corporate policies.
  • Ensure that all underwriting directives and compliance processes are followed.
  • Ensure the tracking of all Casualty Accounts of AIG UAE.
  • Ensure timely update of eStart and other tracking tools.
  • Ensure timely booking of all policies.
  • Handle all process-oriented tasks ensuring a smooth process in place.
  • Perform other tasks that may be deemed necessary as per Casualty requirements.

Collaboration

  • Collaborate with other team members of the Casualty department and peer underwriters within Commercial Lines.
  • Develop strong interpersonal relationships with assigned countries and their employees.
  • Foster positive business relationships with producers and clients.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Territory management experience related to the insurance industry.
  • Thorough knowledge of the property and casualty industry.
  • Preferably completed negotiations skills and time management training.

Skills & Competencies

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrate good business management skills in planning, organizational ability, decision-making, and priority setting with superior time management.
  • Ability to work independently, self-manage, organize and prioritize work with minimal direction.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and shift focus quickly.
  • Ability to establish trust and effective working relationships with team, field offices and producers.
  • Integrity, professional image, communication skills, and interpersonal skills at an established high professional level.
  • Commitment to maintain and develop underwriting skills and technical knowledge.
