Caregiver

Role Overview

Caregiver position at NMC Healthcare. The patient aide will work to support the nursing staff to provide for the everyday needs of residents and their families.

Key Responsibilities

Personal Care & Support

• Assist residents by providing personal services, such as bathing, dressing and grooming.
• Assist nurses in manual handling of residents and with bathing.
• Under the supervision and guidance of nurses and therapists, play with children where appropriate.

Housekeeping & Domestic Support

• Support residents and their families by providing housekeeping and laundry services; preparing food, running errands.
• Maintain a safe, secure and healthy patient environment by ensuring room is clean and tidy.
• Ensure rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies.
• Report shortfall of supplies to registered nurse.
• Report and document any missing items to registered nurse.

Mobility & Outings

• Assist residents and nurses on external trips.
• Participate in resident's social activities.

Communication & Teamwork

• Communicate with a range of people on a range of matters.
• Communicate appropriately and clearly to coworkers and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Communicate the mission, vision and values of the facility.
• Participate as a valued team member, promoting and contributing to a supportive team environment.
• Attend meetings as requested.
• Challenge bias, prejudice and intolerance if appropriate or bring it to the attention of a manager.
• Support equality and value diversity.

Professional Development & Compliance

• Develop own skills and knowledge.
• Recognize the necessity to continuously develop skills and acquire additional knowledge appropriate to the position.
• Attend training sessions offered by long term care.
• Maintain quality in own work.
• Dress appropriately to the expectations of the specific work areas and Occupational Health and Safety Policy.
• Maintain confidentiality of all information in accordance with long term care policy.
• Be aware of the impact of own behaviors on others.

Health, Safety & Infection Control

• Adhere to the requirements of the Environment Health and Safety Management System.
• Adhere to the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Guidelines and Infection Control Guidelines.
• Understand and adhere to emergency preparedness, fire safety and code policies and plans.
• Comply with all Occupational Health and Safety and infection control policies, standards and procedures and cooperate with hospital management to comply with those requirements.
• Work in accordance with documented Occupational Health and Safety procedures and instructions.
• Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
• Notify Occupational Health and Safety of hazards, incidents, near misses and issues and assist with the preparation of risk assessments and incident reports.
• Comply with waste management procedures and policies.
• Attend applicable Occupational Health and Safety and infection control training programs, mock drills and awareness programs.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.

Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma in relevant field.
• One year working experience in a healthcare environment.
• Nanny or homecare support role experience.
• Experience working as a caregiver or similar role.
• Experience working with Arabic children.

Skills & Competencies

• Average command of oral and written English.
• Arabic language desirable but not mandatory.

Additional Information

• Responsibilities may vary depending on number and functional focus of Senior Management Team.
• The actual scope of responsibilities will be determined from time to time by the Director of Operations in conjunction with the Charge Nurses and Managers.
