Backend Engineer

Role Overview

Backend Engineer at Ziina, a company building innovative financial products. The role is based in the UAE.

Role Purpose

Own and deliver end-to-end reliable, scalable, and maintainable software that keeps users' funds safe. The role spans feature design, implementation, shipping, monitoring, and measurement, while helping to establish strong engineering practices and culture.

Key Responsibilities

Feature Development & Delivery

• Collaborate with product, design, operations, and engineering teams to determine which features and solutions deliver the most value for the business and the best experience for users.
• Own and ship end-to-end reliable, scalable, and maintainable software that will keep users' funds safe and stand the test of time.
• Take features from design through implementation, polish, shipping, monitoring, and measuring progress.

Infrastructure & Scalability

• Design and build a cloud-native platform while leveraging main features for monitoring, observability, security, scalability, elasticity, and testing.
• Improve CI/CD workflows to reduce time-to-market for new features.

Engineering Culture & Knowledge

• Help shape engineering culture by introducing good practices and methods of knowledge-sharing.

Qualifications & Experience

• 3+ years developing software.
• Experience working on systems that handle money.
• Experience with Node.js, GraphQL, Postgres, Elasticsearch, or Kafka.
• Experience shipping and maintaining complex backends.

• GraphQL Federation for client-facing APIs.
• Kafka for inter-service communication.

Data Storage & Retrieval

• PostgreSQL for consistent and durable storage.
• Redis for quick fetching.
• Elasticsearch for quick searching.

Infrastructure & Orchestration

• AWS for hosting cloud infrastructure.
• Kubernetes for orchestrating workloads.
• Terraform for Infrastructure as Code.
• Github Actions for CI/CD.

Additional Information

• Live in, or be willing to relocate to, the UAE.
