Role Overview

Associate Project Engineer - Proposal at Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories.

Role Purpose

Support proposal development teams in evaluating customer requirements, developing technical solutions, and preparing bids for power system projects. Work under supervision to apply fundamental proposal concepts and deliver quality deliverables within scope, schedule and budget.

Key Responsibilities

Proposal Development

• Know and apply fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of power system proposals.
• Assist teams in reviewing customer RFQ documents for technical specifications and scope.
• Evaluate bid/no bid decisions.
• Develop work statements and preliminary designs.
• Develop responsibility matrices and risk assessments.
• Develop cash flow projections and preliminary project schedules.

Solution Design

• Develop thorough understanding of SEL's complete ES portfolio.
• Use SEL's portfolio effectively to develop complete solutions.
• Work with contracts teams to finalize terms and conditions, both on-site and from SEL offices.

Project Execution

• Complete assigned work using established procedures.
• Work under immediate supervision.
• Complete assigned work within agreed upon scope, schedule and budget.
• Focus on quality and safety in all work.

Organizational Alignment

• Follow and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.
• Understand, create and simplify in daily work.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline.
• Self-motivated with continuous desire to learn and find solutions.
• Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• College coursework in electric power and/or controls, including power system protection, symmetrical components, programming, or control systems.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate.
• Work experience in electric utilities, industrial plants, communications, computer programming, or construction.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.

Additional Information

• Willing to travel both domestically and internationally a minimum of 25% based on focus area.
• Background check results satisfactory to SEL required.
• Negative drug test result(s) required.
