Associate Director, Corporate Origination and Business Development (Remote Working)

Role Overview

Associate Director, Corporate Origination and Business Development at Mashreq Bank. This is a remote working position focused on expanding the bank's corporate banking footprint in Saudi Arabia.

Role Purpose

The Associate Director drives the origination of new-to-bank corporate deals in Saudi Arabia, oversees cross-border exposure, and ensures smooth coordination of the Saudi Arabia portfolio across Mashreq. The role requires identifying and onboarding Saudi-based corporate groups with operations across Mashreq's footprint countries, pursuing outbound business opportunities aligned with strategic objectives, and maintaining the Saudi Arabia framework in line with market conditions and regulatory changes.

Key Responsibilities

Client Origination

• Lead identification of key growth opportunities and new-to-bank corporate relationships in Saudi Arabia.
• Structure financing solutions and onboard new corporate clients.
• Increase Mashreq's strategic market share in Saudi Arabia.

Cross-Border Exposure Oversight

• Coordinate with the Enterprise Risk Management team to manage Mashreq's cross-border exposure to Saudi Arabia.
• Ensure all operations comply with regional regulations and internal policies.
• Submit cross-border enhancement requests to senior management as required.
• Manage the bank's exposure proactively.

Regional Portfolio Coordination

• Serve as central coordinator for the Saudi Arabia portfolio.
• Facilitate collaboration across Corporate Banking, Risk, Compliance, Treasury, and other departments.
• Align regional strategies with Mashreq's corporate banking objectives.
• Ensure all teams deliver unified solutions to Saudi clients and maintain a consistent approach across borders.

Framework Development & Approval

• Maintain and refine the dynamic Saudi Arabia framework.
• Update the framework regularly to reflect market developments, regulatory changes, and business goals.
• Work closely with business and risk teams to submit revised frameworks for approval.
• Ensure alignment with Mashreq's long-term strategy and risk appetite.

Business Development & Growth

• Drive growth of Mashreq's asset book in Saudi Arabia.
• Expand the portfolio across various sectors and products.
• Identify and pursue opportunities that contribute to revenue generation and growth.

Risk & Compliance Management

• Ensure all transactions comply with Mashreq's risk appetite and approved framework.
• Collaborate with the Credit Management & Control Unit (CMC) within the Corporate Origination division to conduct due diligence.
• Obtain necessary approvals and provide assurance that all deals meet the bank's standards for credit quality, policy, and regulatory adherence.

Market Insight & Strategy Development

• Develop knowledge of strategic insights including market trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes in Saudi Arabia.
• Inform long-term business strategies based on market intelligence.
• Ensure Mashreq remains competitive in the rapidly evolving market.

Stakeholder Reporting & Communication

• Report regularly to senior leadership on the performance of the Saudi Arabia portfolio.
• Detail cross-border exposure and provide updates on ongoing transactions.
• Keep stakeholders informed of significant developments or challenges.
• Ensure transparency and alignment across the bank.

Cross-Functional Coordination

• Collaborate daily with internal teams across Corporate Banking, Risk, Treasury, Legal, Operations, and Compliance.
• Serve as key liaison across departments.
• Resolve challenges and ensure seamless client experience.
• Execute client transactions efficiently and in line with Mashreq's standards.

Qualifications & Experience

• 7 to 10 years of experience in corporate banking with significant exposure to the Saudi Arabian market and broader GCC region.
• Substantial expertise in originating corporate deals, managing cross-border transactions, and overseeing complex portfolios.
• In-depth knowledge of Saudi Arabia's corporate banking landscape, including key sectors, regulatory frameworks, and competitive environment.
• Experience with wholesale banking products including corporate financing, trade finance, cash management, foreign exchange, and derivatives.
• Strong track record of structuring and managing complex deals for strategic clients.
• Solid credit acumen and experience in assessing and mitigating risks associated with large-scale corporate transactions.
• Degree in business, finance, economics, or a related field.
• Professional certifications in corporate banking.
