Assistant Resident Engineer

Role Overview

Assistant Resident Engineer at AECOM in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. You will provide essential technical support to the Resident Engineer and project team, ensuring that all construction works meet statutory requirements, contractual obligations, and quality standards.

Role Purpose

You will maintain site compliance, coordinate between contractors and design teams, and document all construction activities with precision and professionalism. Key Responsibilities

Statutory Duties & Technical Support

• Assist the Resident Engineer in performing statutory duties and technical competent person requirements as mandated by local regulatory authorities.
• Monitor and support the work of the contractor's technical competent persons, providing guidance and ensuring adherence to project standards.

Site Inspections & Compliance

• Conduct regular on-site inspections to verify that construction works comply with approved plans, method statements, and safety protocols.
• Identify and document non-conformities with transparency and detail, escalating issues to the Resident Engineer and relevant stakeholders.
• Enforce compliance with ethics policies, including third-party payment procedures, sub-consultancy engagement processes, and organizational guidelines.

Technical Review & Analysis

• Review and analyze contractor-proposed construction sequences, temporary works, and late-cast openings to ensure structural integrity and feasibility.
• Analyze construction drawings, method statements, and temporary works designs.

Quality Assurance & Control

• Implement and monitor quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) systems, site safety protocols, and environmental management practices.
• Monitor compliance with quality assurance and quality control methodologies.

Documentation & Record-Keeping

• Prepare and contribute to comprehensive site reports, inspection records, defect reports, and QA/QC documentation on a regular basis.
• Maintain organized and accessible filing systems for all correspondence, site records, construction drawings, and regulatory approvals.
• Maintain proficiency in site documentation, report writing, and record-keeping systems.

Stakeholder Coordination & Communication

• Serve as a liaison between the contractor, site team, and design office, facilitating clear communication and timely resolution of construction-related issues.
• Attend site progress meetings, QA/QC meetings, and other project-related meetings, actively contributing to collaborative problem-solving.

General Operations

• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Resident Engineer or project management team, demonstrating flexibility and commitment to project success.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Geotechnical Engineering; or equivalent higher diploma or certificate in civil or structural engineering.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant post-degree experience in civil or structural engineering on construction projects; or minimum 5 years of relevant experience post higher diploma.
• Demonstrated experience with superstructure works, civil drainage systems, and site formation activities.
• Strong knowledge of construction compliance, statutory requirements, and regulatory standards.

Additional Information

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with geotechnical engineering or geotechnical-heavy building projects.
• Technical Competent Person (TCP) certification or equivalent statutory qualification.
• Familiarity with construction management software and digital documentation tools.
• Experience working on large-scale infrastructure or commercial building projects in the Middle East.
• Knowledge of UAE-specific building codes and regulatory requirements.
